Open Beta 7 now available for OnePlus 6

Image
Nov 19 AT 1:52 PM Evan Selleck 0 Comments If you have a OnePlus 6 and have been keeping tabs on the beta software releases, OnePlus has a new one for you. The company is launching Open Beta 7 this week  and as usual, there's quite a bit to digest. There are small additions, including a vibration that will happen when you hang up a call, new app drawer settings, and UI improvements for emergency rescue service. The new beta release also includes performance enhancements and general bug fixes, as is par for the course. There are two new features being added to the mix. First, a new Video Enhancer feature. This will offer more enhanced colors while watching videos. And there is OnePlus Roaming, which will allow OnePlus 6 owners surf the internet on their device without the requirement of a local SIM card. There will be different internet packages to purchase in certain regions, so if you use the feature you'll be prompted to buy one. It doesn&

Sony DualShock 4 on sale for only $38.99, makes a great Bluetooth controller

Image
Nov 19 AT 1:20 PM Dima Aryeh 0 Comments If you're looking for a solid Bluetooth controller for mobile gaming, this deal may be for you. The Sony DualShock 4 is only $38.99 on Amazon and at GameStop , down from the standard $60 price tag. When it comes to controllers, buying an OEM controller like a Sony DualShock or Microsoft's Xbox One S controller is a good idea. Everything from the buttons to the sticks usually feels better. It's a matter of preference, but I prefer the Xbox One controller over the DualShock 4 by a good margin. But $39 is an unbetable price for a solid controller that can also be used with your PS4 and PC. Hit the source links to pick yours up in many different colors! Samsung 55-inch Q6FN QLED Smart 4K TV $999 - Samsung Black Friday 2018 Deals

Image
Samsung is cutting $500 off of the regular price of its 55-inch Q6FN QLED Smart TV , ahead of Black Friday. This brings the price down to $999 and effectively cuts the price in a third. Making it a great TV to pick up from Samsung. It is also discounting other sizes in the Q6FN lineup, but this one is the best deal of the bunch. This smart TV from Samsung is a QLED TV, which is not quite as good as OLED, but it does still have a really good picture. This is why it is cheaper than OLED while still having a great looking display. This is a 4K and HDR TV, so you're going to get a great image from this TV, and it even has Q HDR. Samsung touts that Q HDR is calibrated to show the colors how the director imagined it when the content was shot. Compared to a regular 4K TV from Samsung, you can really tell that there is a huge difference when it comes to Q HDR. This TV is on sale directly from Samsung right now, and will likely come to other retailers soon. You can pick up the 55-inch Q6FN

Samsung Ponders Training Self-Driving Cars With Brain Waves

Image
Samsung's efforts in the self-driving automotive industry appear poised to continue growing, based on a recent patent for a new autonomous driver training model published by  WIPO . The patent itself applies primarily to an 'apparatus' and methodology for training a self-driving vehicle's AI that utilizes machine learning and a combination of human driver metrics and traditional sensor information. The data for the former is tracked and pulled from several sources within the vehicle itself while a human is in control. That includes information such as grip strength and positioning taken from the steering wheel and brake or throttle pedal movement. However, it also seems to include headset-gathered metrics, with Samsung explicitly indicating measurements taken via eye-tracking and a brain-wave electrocardiogram. The former of those is self-explanatory but the latter is more closely related to and encompasses technologies more often associated with EKG, ECG, or EEG measur

Best Buy Will have the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL at $400 Off For 2 Days Only

Image
Best Buy has already told us about most of its Black Friday 2018 deals , including discounts on the Pixel 3 , Pixel 3 XL , and Pixel 2 XL. But they may be holding out on revealing one more deal on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL that could get you an even bigger price cut. According to a flyer posted up in Best Buy stores, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will have a $400 price drop on Thursday and Friday of this week only. The previously announced deal was a $200 drop on the Pixel 3 and 3 XL for most of this week, as well as a $400 drop on the Pixel 2 XL. This semi-secretive deal is (obviously) better for the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, assuming you are able to take advantage. The reader who sent this image in tells us that the Best Buy store made it sound like supplies at this price will be limited. Here is a picture of the flyer: Worried that this is a typo on Best Buy's part? There are terms at the bottom of the image we received that you can see below. They specifically call out the

The OnePlus 6 drops $100 ($429-479) starting at 3AM EST tomorrow (November 20th)

Image
OnePlus is pushing the new 6T pretty hard with its T-Mobile partnership. However, there are still some OnePlus 6 units sitting around in the warehouse. Apparently, that means it's time for a sale. OnePlus will knock $100 off the price of the OnePlus 6 starting at 3AM EST tomorrow. In the past, OnePlus has always stopped sales of its old phone in the lead-up to a new release. This year is different. Most versions of the OnePlus 6 are still for sale in the OP store. There wasn't even a discount when the 6T launched, making the OP6 a tough sell. Now, you'll be able to get the phone starting at $429 for the 6/64GB version. The 8/128GB will sell for $479. The 8/256GB is out of stock, and I wouldn't expect it to come back. Watch films like ‘The Terminator’ free on YouTube with glorious ad interruptions

Image
Forces of Geek YouTube quietly launched a new free-to-watch film collection, featuring over 100 titles so far. As you watch these YouTube free movies, you will periodically have to view unskippable ads. The films are mostly older, with a bulk of the titles being direct-to-video caliber fare. Remember the good ol' days when you used to channel surf and then sometimes magically land on an awesome movie? It was like your lucky day! Now, in the age of Netflix binge-watching, that feeling is mostly gone. Recently though, YouTube quietly launched a new collection of free-to-watch movies that at least bring back one aspect of watching a film on cable television: unskippable ads interrupting your movie-watching experience. The collection of YouTube free movies is about 100-strong right now and features a few undeniable classics mixed in with a lot of direct-to-video caliber garbage. The movies are all totally free; the only drawback is those unskippable ads. E

Getting screen brightness right for every user

Image
Posted by Ben Murdoch, Software Engineer and Michael Wright, Android Framework Engineer The screen on a mobile device is critical to the user experience. The improved Adaptive Brightness feature in Android P automatically manages the display to match your preferences for brightness level so you get the best experience, whatever the current lighting environment. Screen brightness in Android is managed via Quick Settings or via the settings app (Settings → Display → Brightness Level). In Android Pie, Adaptive Brightness is enabled by default (Settings → Display → Adaptive Brightness). While enabled, Android automatically selects a screen brightness that's suitable for the user's current ambient light conditions. Prior to Android Pie, the brightness slider didn't represent an absolute screen brightness level, but a global adjustment factor for boosting or reducing the device manufacturer's preset screen brightness curve across all ambient light levels: *

Get to Know: Verizon Prepaid

Image
Practically anyone and everyone in the US is familiar with the top-tier wireless service providers. Ask around and most folks can think of Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint — they're the so-called "Big Four". For every one of the major network operators listed above there are a number of other players in the space. Some service providers license infrastructure to  Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) and include the likes of Metro , Boost Mobile , and Cricket Wireless . Select carriers offer their own prepaid services with different rate plans, phone selection, and support. Let's take a look at one of them in particular: Verizon Prepaid . By contrast, the LG XBOOM AI ThinQ model WK9 rolls off the tongue like you are spitting out Lego bricks. In case you were wondering, the XBOOM AI ThinQ model WK9 is LG's entry into the smart display segment, boasting an 8-inch HD display, a big 20W speaker, and a 5MP camera. For this article, the LG XBOOM AI ThinQ model WK9 will be referred to as the WK9 from now on.  Having first appeared on B&H's website way back in March, LG's WK9 smart display comes to take on the Google Home Hub , JBL's Link View , and Lenovo's Smart Display . Unlike the Home Hub with no camera and just adequate sound, the WK9 does sport a 5MP for video calling via Google Duo and its speaker boasts 20W of output in partnership with Meridian Audio that LG says is the 'most powerful' of any smart display. Huawei wants to introduce foldable 5G device at MWC 2019

Image
Huawei held a private demo of a foldable 5G prototype for Korean carriers, according to ETNews . A senior government official confirmed Huawei is working on a flexible product with next-gen network support. The Korean news agency said Huawei's plans are to introduce the phone at MWC 2019. Prototype, released to Korean media Huawei is pretty much ready with the product, according to the report, with the official saying he was surprised how developed the device is. When the 5G phone is unfolded, it has 8" screen, while folded it goes down to 5", which is slightly larger than the Samsung prototype of 4.6" and 7.3" diagonals. The manufacturer of the screen is BOE, a company with HQ in Beijing and R&D centers around the world. Although the Chinese manufacture pitched its idea to telecom representatives and government officials, no one from Huawei Korea confirmed if the device will actually make it to the retail shelves in the Asian country.
