Google’s new music and YouTube service launches tomorrow, save yourself some cash and sign up for YouTube Red today

It's been a long time coming, but the much rumoured new music and YouTube services from Google will be launching tomorrow. The services look fairly comprehensive, but if you want to save your money you should sign up for YouTube Red today.

As announced last week, there are two services being launched tomorrow: YouTube Music which will have a free, ad-supported tier, and the Premium services – YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Premium. YouTube Music Premium will cost AU$11.99 per month, while YouTube Premium will cost AU$14.99 per month. YouTube Premium includes access to YouTube Music Premium, as well as access to the YouTube Original series which have been growing in popularity. Both services including access to Google Play Music – which is not going away, or being shut down.

Now, for the good news. Existing users on YouTube Red will be grandfathered in at their existing monthly cost, while new signups to the new YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Premium services which launch tomorrow morning here in Australia will pay a bit more.

I keep saying YouTube Red but it's the same underlying service as signing up for Google Play Music. Both services cost AU$11.99 per month, which includes unlimited Google Play Music access, ad-free YouTube videos, YouTube Music and of course access to YouTube's original series which includes the awesome Cobra Kai series, as well as new upcoming series such as dance drama, Step Up: High Water, and upcoming series like the sci-fi thriller, Impulse.

The YouTube Red/Google Play Music service also includes an option to include your family with a $17.99 per month option that will let you include up to 6 people (you and 5 other people) for the one low monthly price. Here's the costing and inclusions for both services

So basically, if you're at all interested in using YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium when they launch tomorrow and want to save a couple of dollars, then sign up to YouTube Red or Google Play Music tonight. The YouTube Red service can be signed up to here, while if you want to split hairs, you can sign up for Google Play Music here – both services include a 1-month free trial if you haven't used a trial recently.

[Update: More details from internal email] Essential reportedly cancels second phone, puts itself up for sale

According to Bloomberg , Essential, an up-and-coming phone manufacturer, is reportedly calling it quits, canceling its second phone and putting out a "For Sale" sign. The company, founded by Android's creator Andy Rubin, has supposedly hired an outside firm to advise it on a potential sale, with one suitor allegedly showing interest. The Essential Phone, or the PH-1, was a phone focused on physical beauty, despite the deep notch at the top of the display for the front camera and sensors. Despite its problems, it gained a small but loyal following, many of whom were anxiously waiting for Essential's sophomore phone (PH-2?). Those dreams look to be crushed now, with Rubin's company canceling its second device. Bloomberg 's source claims that the engineers, some of whom came from Apple and Google, will likely be a part of the sale, but Essential is still trying to make a decision.  Bloomberg  also reports that Essential is pivoting to the smart home

alcatel 5V debuts with notched screen, dual rear cameras, 4,000 mAh battery

TCL-owned alcatel has unveiled its newest flagship offering today, the 5V. The phone comes with a 6.2-inch 19:9 notched display with 720x1500 resolution, an 88% screen-to-body ratio, and 2.5D Dragontrail glass on top. The alcatel 5V has a dual 12 MP + 2 MP rear camera system with dual-tone LED flash, with the secondary sensor being used only for depth information, enabling bokeh effects. The main snapper has 1.25μm pixels and 1/2.8" size, and the camera software can do things like AI scene detection, burst shot, HDR, real-time bokeh, and it also contains electronic image stabilization and Google Lens (which tries to identify the things you're pointing the camera at). The selfie shooter is an 8 MP unit with 1.12μm pixels and 1/4" sensor size.
