PayPal Now Being Fully Integrated Into Google Pay Ecosystem

Google will soon start to offer PayPal as a payment method across its entire ecosystem as part of an extended partnership between Google Pay and the American money service. Bill Ready, chief operating officer and executive vice president at PayPal, said that consumers in the United States will be able to use PayPal as a payment option to pay across all Google apps once they add their PayPal account to any of Google's services such as Google Play or YouTube. The payment can be done without requiring the user to log in each time and without leaving the Google service in question.

The integration is expected to roll out to users in the United States over the next few months, marking another development in the longstanding partnership between Google Pay and PayPal. Google Pay is the name of a new service that combines Android Pay and Google Wallet as part of the Mountain View, California-based internet giant's move to streamline all of its existing payments options and unify them under a single brand. In May last year, PayPal launched an update to its Android app which officially debuted integration with Android Pay. Following that update, PayPal users have since been able to add the online service as a payment method in Google's own payment app, though users were not able to make payments using their PayPal balance in areas where Discover was accepted through Android Pay. Users who wished to pay for items using their PayPal funds first needed to download the PayPal Android app on their smartphones and then sign in with their account and go to the settings menu where they had to select Android Pay as a new gateway for PayPal transactions. They would have then been asked to link their PayPal account to Android Pay.

The integration of PayPal into Android Pay was part of Google's plan to expand its mobile payment solution and provide more flexibility to users when choosing their payment options. PayPal's support for Android Pay dates back to early 2015 when the company made its tool compatible with the Here card reader which also works with Google's solution.
