Samsung Pay gets support for Masterpass online payments early next year

Mastercard has announced today that it has inked a new agreement with Samsung to bring online payment capabilities to US-based Samsung Pay users. Starting early next year, Samsung Pay users in the United States who are Mastercard holders will be able to pay online at hundreds of thousands of merchants where Masterpass is accepted. This new partnership will enable users to simply and securely make payments across their Samsung devices as well as take advantage of associated benefits.

Masterpass is a new all-digital payment solution announced by Mastercard earlier this year. The aim is to make it easy for users to make fast and secure online payments across different devices and channels, be it online, in-app or in-store using contactless method. In order to speed up the checkout process, consumers’ card and address information is securely stored in one place. Samsung Pay users will be kept safe using the existing tokenized credentials and device authentication methods to complete online transactions on any website that accepts Masterpass.

“We are thrilled to be working with Mastercard to bring online payments to the masses and make the online shopping experience as convenient and seamless as possible,” said Thomas Ko, VP and Global GM, Samsung Pay, Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics.
