Greenpeace may just have called on Samsung to release refurbished Galaxy Note 7
It was recently reported that Samsung was thinking about releasing refurbished Galaxy Note 7 in emerging markets like India and Vietnam. Even though a spokesperson for Samsung India denied the claim, the rumor mill appears to be convinced that Samsung is going to follow through with this and release a slightly modified version of the Galaxy Note 7 with a smaller battery.
Samsung’s MWC 2017 press conference is currently underway in Barcelona and while the company hasn’t confirmed anything about the refurbished Galaxy Note 7, a protester from Greenpeace unfurled a flag and took a position on the stage’s steps. The flag bears Samsung’s logo, #GalaxyNote7 and a recycle logo with the words “Rethink, Reuse, Recycle.”
He did that as David Lowes, Chief Marketing Office at Samsung Electronics Europe, was making his opening remarks. This forced the executive to acknowledge the protestors presence and ask him to vacate the stage, even going so far as to say “you’ve made your point.”
For those who are unaware, Greenpeace is a non-governmental environmental organization that has offices in more than 40 countries and is focused on fighting for a greener and healthier world. Much has already been written about the possible environmental impact of more than 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 units collecting dust in Samsung warehouses. It can either destroy those units and tens of millions of components or do as Greenpeace suggests and Rethink, Reuse, Recycle.
Whether or not Samsung will do this remains to be seen, but it’s not the first time a suggestion like this has been sent its way, and it may not be the last.
