QardioArm wireless blood pressure cuff – utilitarian and effective

Image
As you may have read in our review of the QardioBase 2 , we're fans of Qardio's approach to product design. With devices and an app that do what they do, well and eschew frills and extraneous features, Qardio's plan is focused and extremely effective. While the Base measures weight and body composition, the QardioArm measures blood pressure and heart rate. QardioArm automatically powers on when unwrapped, and powers off when wrapped. Build & Design The device is almost painfully simple. Unrolling the cuff from the device automatically turns it on (and vice versa), mitigating the need for a physical switch. After sliding your arm through the loop and securing the cuff, all you need to do is open the Qardio app and tap it against the unit to instantly pair and connect. From there, pressing the Big Green Start Button takes your measurements. Results transfer automatically to the app (and to your doctor, if you have that functionality enabled). Simple and painl

Google claims Pixel 2 MMS issues fixed despite continued reports

Image
... According to a statement made by a Google employee on the Pixel product forums, a somewhat widespread problem with receiving MMS messages on the Pixel 2 XL has been resolved. But if you ask the people that claimed to be affected, you'll get a very different answer.  Image via Omar Ramadan We had heard some reports for this problem ourselves, which manifests as an inability to receive or download MMS messages sent to a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL. We were looking into the matter when a Googler issued the "fixed" statement on the product forums for one thread on the subject. This wouldn't be the first messaging problem Google's Pixels have run into. Based on user reports, some people contacting support have had responsibility for the problem passed back and forth between Google and their carrier. Almost every user statement with carrier details indicates that the problem is exclusive to AT&T subscribers. It's possible

The best, worst, and weirdest cars at the 2018 New York Auto Show

Image
The New York International Auto Show opens to the public this weekend, and upon entering the Javits Center attendees will be bombarded with new cars, SUVs, trucks and even a handful of supercars that will most likely be out their price range. Here's our primer for anyone who wants to cut through the noise and see the stuff that really matters. Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Most Futurama-ready car: Genesis Essentia Anyone who grew up on dog-eared copies of Popular Science probably assumed we'd be riding around in self-driving cars while viewing the passing scenery through glass or plastic bubble roofs. The self-driving car part is playing out right now, but the glass or plastic bubble part seems to have been left in the recycling bin. Now, here's the Genesis Essentia , an all-electric performance concept with a transparent hood and

Google takes April Fools' very, very seriously. In 2018, April Fools' again falls on a weekend and while other companies announced on Friday, Google is being a traditionalist and unveiling their jokes beginning the day before and going into Sunday. The first April Fools' joke appears to be in Google Maps, with the Twitter account teasing something yesterday. In hindsight, the "Where's Waldo?" aspect is somewhat obvious from the tweet . In a blog post penned by Waldo , the beloved stripped book character is using Maps' " Location sharing " feature. When you're in the Android, iOS

Vivo Y71 mid-ranger pops up on TENAA

Image
A new member of Vivo's mid-range family is apparently on its way. A pair of listing for an Y71 and Y71A on TENAA offer up quite a few details, with other industry sources filling in pretty much all the rest of the gaps, with more specs, product images, launch date and a price. Unlike the recently spotted Y85, the Y71 sports a classic notch-less design on its 5.99-inch, 1440 x 720pixel panel. It is housed within what, based on the antenna lines, is probably a metal unibody, measuring 155.87 x 75.74 x 7.8 mm and weighing in at 150 grams. Interestingly enough, there appears to be no fingerprint reader or the back, nor the front of the unit. Since it's a budget device, an in-display one seems pretty unlikely, meaning Vivo apparently decided to skip on the biometric sensor altogether. What it luckily didn't skip on, however, is a 3.5mm audio jack, positioned on the bottom frame, right next to the single speaker and the microUSB port. Other leaked specs include a Snapdr

Wicked Audio Endo review: The boring kind of cheap headphones

Image
Bluetooth audio products take many forms at several price points, offering us the consumers multiple options to meet our respective needs. While some can go for the top-dollar, high-end items from Bose, others may need something under $100 or even $50. Affordable audio is potentially lucrative, especially when a customer can go find them at his or her nearest Walmart. Growing up, the only name of true note I knew in this particular market was Skullcandy, an edgy company set on providing decent-ish headphones and earphones that looked nice/cool, but didn't cost a whole ton. Now we have come to another brand trying to grab the same type of consumer. Wicked Audio has an expanding product line of wired and wireless audio, all of which target different price and use case demographics. Today, I have the Endo, a pair of on-ear Bluetooth headphones under $50 ($44.99, to be precise). Unfortunately, the low cost and design are the only true redeeming qualities — even for something
