Unlocked Galaxy S9, S8 and Note 8 get December security update in the US

The unlocked versions of three pre-2019 Samsung flagships are getting the December security update this week in the US. Samsung has released the December update for the Galaxy S8/S8+, Galaxy S9/S9+, and the Galaxy Note 8 in the country. The software versions for the Galaxy S8/S8+, Galaxy S9/S9+ and Galaxy Note 8 updates are G95*U1UES7DSL2, G96*U1UEU7CSK1 and N950U1UES7DSK5 respectively.

Each of these updates brings only the newest security patch. The December security patch, as detailed by Samsung at the beginning of the month, fixes six critical vulnerabilities in the Android OS. Fixes for 13 vulnerabilities that affect only Samsung's software are included as well. One of these vulnerabilities could allow a connection to a new Bluetooth device on a locked device, while another granted access to the home screen wallpaper when brightness levels were adjusted without unlocking a device.

If you own any of the phones mentioned above, you can download the December update over the air from the Settings » Software update menu. We also have the latest firmware for these devices in our firmware archive, which you can use to manually update your phone using a Windows PC.
