Samsung to shut down EV battery plant in the US due to COVID-19

After shutting down its smartphone and home appliance plants in various countries, including India, Samsung announced earlier today that it is temporarily shutting down its battery plant in the US. The battery plant, which is run by Samsung SDI, makes batteries for electric vehicles.

Samsung said that it is shutting down its battery plant in Michigan to help stop the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic and to keep its employees safe. The company also has another plant in the state which makes battery packs, and it has been temporarily shuttered as well.

The two plants in Michigan will remain closed until April 13. The decision was taken after Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an order to everyone in the state and asked them to stay at home. More than 1,300 active cases have been confirmed in the state of Michigan in the US.

Samsung SDI's rival LG Chem has announced that it will close its battery manufacturing plants in the US and other countries due to the pandemic. Samsung has donated $24.6 million in South Korea to help contain the virus. The company has also decided to shut down its stores in Canada, China, Europe, and the US over the past few weeks.

Sony Announces Smaller Digital Paper E-Ink Writing Tablet

Sony has now announced a smaller follow-up to last year's Digital Paper E-ink writing tablet, the DPT-RP1. That's according to a new announcement made today via Sony's official blog. The new tablet – also dubbed with Digital Paper branding but sold under the model number DPT-CP1 – seems to be the same basic design as the previous model. However, while that earlier device was sized as close as possible to A4 paper with a 13.3-inch display, the new model drops to A5 with a 10.3-inch display. That should make its use much easier under a wider number of circumstances since it will arguably be easier to hold in one hand while writing with the other.  However, there will certainly be other benefits as well. Samsung to build a P3 ‘total semiconductor factory’ in Pyeongtaek by 2021

It hasn't been long since Samsung completed the construction of its P2 semiconductor plant in Pyeongtaek, but now, the company is preparing to build its 3rd 'P3' semiconductor factory in the same city in the Gyeonggi Province. According to reports from the local media , Samsung wants to start constructing the P3 plant in September and make it fully operational by the end of 2021. The P3 plant will reportedly be 300 meters longer than the existing P2 plant, topping a total of 700 meters in length. Constructing the building itself should take roughly a year, and a few additional months will be needed to install the necessary equipment and ready it for mass production. Motorola 's Pronto Suite of applications is going to be used by the States of Jersey Police, proposed as a forward-moving effort to transition from using methods for simpler tasks that could be completed more efficiently in the field by using digital resources instead of using paper. Examples of tasks that could be completed with some of the apps in the Pronto Suite are things like taking down statements or handing out penalty notices.
