SK Telecom launches the Gear S3 classic LTE with exclusive watchfaces

One of the biggest mobile carriers in South Korea – SK Telecom – today announced that it has exclusively launched the Samsung Gear S3 classic LTE smartwatch. The carrier is selling it for 451,000 won ($387), though customers should keep in mind that this price does not include the cost of the USIM chip.

SK Telecom worked closely with Samsung to develop three watchfaces for its cellular variant of the smartwatch. The watchfaces try their best to replicate classic mechanical watches. To that effect, they provide a ticking sound of the second hand and a night lighting mode. These watchfaces will only be available for download to Gear S3 classic LTE owners via the Galaxy Apps Store.

The carrier is also offering a Gear Happiness Compensation Program which will provide a 50,000 won ($43) discount to customers who purchase the Gear S3 classic LTE after returning a Gear S device before March 31.

It’s unclear how long this smartwatch will remain exclusive to SK Telecom given that customers who want LTE with Samsung’s latest wearable device have to opt for the Gear S3 frontier. The Gear S3 classic itself doesn’t provide support for LTE connectivity.

Some OnePlus 6Ts have an issue with waves of static on the display

Based on a handful of reports on the OnePlus product forums, some 6T owners have run into a problem with their phone's display in which a pixelated sort of "wave" or pulse of bright colors travels up or down the screen. A reliable trigger can't seem to be found, but for those that are affected, it appears to happen more often on the lock screen while using either OnePlus' face recognition or the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. Samsung Display remains the leader in global display market

The latest data from IHS Markit shows that Samsung Display has retained its dominant position as the top global smartphone display vendor in the first quarter of this year. It was able to do that as more smartphone manufacturers opted for OLED panels for their premium devices. Samsung picked up the bulk of those orders. Samsung's display affiliate is estimated to have shipped $3.4 billion worth of smartphone displays in the first quarter ending March 2019. It accounted for 40.2 percent of the smartphone display market in this period. Samsung Display also accounted for 80 percent of OLED panel supplies. Samsung Display retains its leadership It's pertinent to mention here that Samsung's Q1 market share is 6.6 percentage points lower than it was in the same period last year.
