Galaxy S5 Neo Android 7.0 Nougat update rolling out now

The Galaxy S5 Neo has almost hit its two-year support window for major Android platform updates. Samsung is going to sneak in one last major Android update before the handset is relegated to the long list of devices that are no longer supported.

The Galaxy S5 Neo Android 7.0 Nougat update was spotted on a variant of the handset last month that surfaced at the Wi-Fi Alliance for certification. That’s when it became clear that it was going to receive the Nougat update, even though quite a lot of people thought it wouldn’t get the update.

It’s a bit surprising to see that the Galaxy S5 Neo is getting the Nougat update. Samsung has a habit of forgetting about the many spin-off variants that it releases not too long after they hit the market. I’m sure those who are still holding on to this device won’t complain about getting Nougat.

Samsung has started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S5 Neo. Firmware version G903WVLU1CQH4 is rolling out now for the handset in Canada. It’s only a matter of time before it rolls out in other markets.

Galaxy S5 Neo owners will receive an over-the-air notification on their handset when the update goes live in their market. The firmware files are also available for download from our firmware section.
