Samsung’s switched to a two-year refresh cycle for standard Gear S models

On Wednesday, Samsung took to the stage in Berlin to unveil the Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear Sport. To most viewers, they were the highlight of the event, but we think there’s something more important to take away from it: the firm has switched to a two-year refresh cycle for standard Gear S models.

Ever since Samsung uncovered the Gear S3 back in August 2016, the internet has been filled with reports claiming it would take the wraps off the Gear S4 at IFA, because it matched up with its record. It’s only when both the Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear Sport were spotted at the FCC did we assume that wouldn’t be the case.

It’s unclear why the firm has altered the refresh cycle, but one thing’s for sure: the Gear S4 will be its best smartwatch to date, powered by its most innovative technology. We’re also expecting it to be the priciest wearable it’s ever released, based on how it’s positioned itself with the Galaxy Note 8.
