The OnePlus 5T gets some awesome iPhone X-like gestures

When the iPhone X was unveiled, one of the more surprising omissions was the fact that Apple was finally moving away from the home button. This was to help accommodate the new 5.7-inch display that Apple has implemented, and marked a move away from the boring slab design that has been around for years.

However, the removal of the home button forced Apple to rethink the way users would navigate around the device, and the company has implemented a series of gestures for doing so. In the Android world, many devices use on-screen navigation buttons to combat the new trend of bezel-less phones, but OnePlus is looking at things a bit differently now.

The company has released the latest OxygenOS Open Beta for the OnePlus 5T, which not only gets rid of the wonky, new clipboard manager but also adds some new navigation gestures similar to the iPhone X. These navigation gestures are activated when you swipe up from the middle-bottom edge of the device, which will take you back to the home screen.

Swiping up and then to either the right or left side of the display will act as a back button, while swiping up and holding the screen for around a second will activate the app switcher. While these new gestures seem pretty awesome, there definitely may be a bit of a learning curve, and since this is a beta feature, there may be some bugs that cause your device to not react as quickly as you do.

Nonetheless, it’s awesome to see at least one Android OEM implement new features “on-the-fly” and hopefully these gestures will stick around on OnePlus devices. I’m also hoping to see more Android OEM’s implement similar features as we get closer to seeing the latest and greatest devices hit the market in 2018.
