Fido to push Android Oreo to Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ LG G6, V30 and Huawei P10 Plus in March

-

Fido will update Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, LG G6, V30 and Huawei P10 Plus devices on its network to Android 8.0 Oreo later this month, according to the carrier's OS upgrade schedule webpage.

While there's no mention of specific dates related to any of the above devices, owners of those phones will likely be excited that the long wait to get the latest version of Android on their smartphone of choice is coming to an end.

Notably missing from the list is the Huawei P10. For whatever reason, it doesn't seem that Fido currently plans on updating the P10 to Oreo at the same time that it updates its bigger sibling.

Additionally, it doesn't seem that Fido parent Rogers plans on updating those same devices to Android Oreo this month either.

The Rogers OS upgrade schedule webpage doesn't mention when the carrier plans on updating the S8, S8+, G6, V30 and P10 to Oreo. Similarly, Telus' software update schedule webpage doesn't state when it plans to push Oreo to modern devices like the S8.

Gear S3 frontier update patches major S Voice bug

-
Samsung released a much-requested update for the Gear S3 frontier on Wednesday. The upgrade has been designed to patch a major bug that resulted in S Voice crashing whenever it was toggled — and from what we can tell, it’s working. The glitch itself has been running riot since May, which is around the same time the device received a routine maintenance update , leading us to believe a faulty line of code was the reason S Voice was unable to run without breaking down. Related: Gear S3 Frontier update is small, brings Jansky wearable Not all customers were affected by the glitch in the same way, though. Some noticed that the performance of S Voice suffered when asking it to retrieve information from the internet, like a weather forecast, but it never crashed. It’s all a little strange, but it’s nice to see Samsung release an update to fix the issue. We’re just hoping we don’t have to wait too much longer for it to arrive on all compatible units, seeing as it isn’t showing up in th...

Apple is postponing new iOS features in favor of reliability and performance

Apple has decided to postpone new features in iOS in favor of improving the reliability and performance of the operating system, as according to a report by Axios. According to the report, Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President, Software Engineering, announced the revised plan to employees at a meeting earlier this month. This pushes features like refresh of the homescreen and in-car user interface, improvements to core apps like Mail and camera experience to 2019. What we will get this year is improvements to AR, digital health and parental controls. Apart from that, the OS will largely feature improvements to performance and user experience. We have seen Apple do this with macOS in the past, where they dedicate one entire update cycle to just refining the OS and make existing features work better. However, we have never quite seen Apple do that on iOS. This is largely due to the hyper competitive nature of the mobile market where competition and customer demands push companies t...

Galaxy Note 8 launch date has been confirmed by Samsung

-
Image
There has been a lot of speculation about the Galaxy Note 8’s launch in recent weeks. Reports have suggested that the handset will be launched earlier than previously expected. This means that Samsung won’t be unveiling it at the IFA 2017 convention in September. Samsung’s mobile boss recently confirmed that the Galaxy Note 8 is going to be launched towards the end of August . The company has now officially confirmed the Galaxy Note 8 launch date by sending out invites to the press. It was reported that Samsung would conduct a separate event for the Galaxy Note 8 in New York City. That’s precisely what it’s going to do. The event will take place on August 23, where the Note 8 will go official. This is going to be a really important moment for Samsung as it essentially marks the rebirth of the Galaxy Note lineup following the disaster that was the Galaxy Note 7 . Samsung was quick to confirm last year that the Note lineup won’t be discontinued, so it’s certainly not going to let th...

Samsung started the rollout of Android 10 to its current-generation flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S6 , three months ago. One month later, Verizon released the Android 10 update to the Galaxy Tab S6 on its network. Now, T-Mobile has released the Android 10 software update to the tablet on its network in the US . The new software update with firmware version  T867USQU2BTE1 brings Android 10 to the LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 (SM-T867U). It also features One UI 2.1 and the May 2020 Android security patch . The file size of the update is over 2.1GB, so we would advise you to use a Wi-Fi connection to download the new software. Although T-Mobile's changelog doesn't mention new features, the Android 10 update brings smoother animations and transitions, Google's gesture-based UI navigation, improved Dark Mode, tweaked color scheme and icons, and more. Then there's an improved camera app and a refreshed design inside the Device Care section. Thanks to One UI 2....

Some OnePlus 6Ts have an issue with waves of static on the display

-
Image
Based on a handful of reports on the OnePlus product forums, some 6T owners have run into a problem with their phone's display in which a pixelated sort of "wave" or pulse of bright colors travels up or down the screen. A reliable trigger can't seem to be found, but for those that are affected, it appears to happen more often on the lock screen while using either OnePlus' face recognition or the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. The issue — which our Cody Toombs aptly described as "like something changed in the Matrix" — is demonstrated in the video below: VIDEO Based on reports, a factory reset can't fix the problem, and it doesn't appear to be tied to any specific SKU. Thankfully for those affected, it isn't a persistent or ongoing issue, happening only sporadically. Although it seems only a handful are experiencing the problem, we nevertheless reached out to OnePlus on the subject to see if it was an is...
