S9+ Randomly Not Receiving Text Messages
Problem: My Galaxy S9+ goes through random periods of a few hours where it will not receive text messages. If I restart my phone, it will receive all of the texts from that time period and will have the correct time stamp (If the person sent a text at 7:23 but I did not restart my phone until 11, my phone still registers that I received the text at 7:23). It may do this multiple times per day, or not at all. I can tell that it is doing this if I pay attention to my battery life. My phone has been getting progressively worse battery life for the last few days. However, it becomes drastically worse for no reason (over 20 percent per hour with no use) when I am not receiving texts. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Related Problem: I occasionally miss text messages sent from my friends. From their perspective, the message was sent, but I do not get it. It is not a hard fault and I know on some of them I am in an area where I have service. It has happened from at least 2 people that I am aware of. I do have long conversations with both of them, but I am not aware that I have to go back and clean them up as I thought long conversations would delete old messages, not miss new ones. I appreciate the help.
Solution: The first thing that you will need to do is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Check if a corrupt data in the messaging app is causing this problem by clearing the cache and data of this app from the application manager. Once this is done try checking if the issue still occurs.
- Check if the issue occurs when the phone is running in Safe Mode. With the phone operating in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then try checking if this is caused by a signal issue by going to a different area with strong reception. Check if the issue still occurs in this other area.
Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
S9+ Not Receiving Text From One Contact
Problem: I have had a Samsung Galaxy S9+ for about a month now, and in the last week, I have not been receiving text messages from one specific contact. They are receiving messages from me, but I am not receiving any from them. I have checked to see if they got blocked or any of their messages and they haven't. I have tried turning my phone on and off and it did nothing. I have reset everything and did force stops and nothing seems to be working.
Solution: Try deleting the contact from your phone then add it again. You should also make sure that the number is not in the block list of your phone. Delete the messaging thread of this particular contact from your phone then check if the issue still occurs.
In case the above steps fail to fix the problem then proceed with the additional steps listed below.
- If the contact is using an iPhone have them turn of the iMessage feature of their phone then have them send you a message
- Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn't then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
