Brydge has made the first Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad for Chrome OS, and they're beautiful

Historically, Brydge has released keyboards for iPads and Surface Pros, although we became more familiar with the company thanks to the 'Made for Google' Pixel Slate keyboard it recently produced. Brydge's Google intentions don't stop there, though, as it's now announced the first-ever wireless keyboard and touchpad designed exclusively for Chrome OS.

Styled in the same handsome navy blue as the Pixel Slate and its accessories, with black keys and accents, the keyboard features the same layout as recent Chromebooks, complete with a dedicated Google Assistant key. The body is made from aluminum and 6-month battery life is touted. When it does need charging, a USB Type-C port is on the back which can also be used to plug the keyboard into a Chrome OS device directly. Configurations for English US, English UK, and German will be available.

The touchpad, just like the keyboard, is reminiscent of the equivalent Apple product, with its subtle wedge shape and aluminum/glass construction. According to the product page, the trackpad is Bluetooth 4.2 (while the keyboard is only 4.1) but it also has a USB-C port.

No details on pricing have emerged and it looks like you'll have to wait until spring to pick them up. Chrome Unboxed tried them both out and was suitably impressed. Hopefully, we'll see more similar products for Chrome OS in the near future.

Instagram starts showing activity status in direct messages

... In its quest to become the only app where you share photos, moments, and messages, Instagram is adding one new feature to its direct messages: activity status. Just like you'd see when a person was last active on WhatsApp or Telegram or plenty of other messaging services, now you can do the same on Instagram and chide them for not replying with "oohs" and "aahs" to the preettay pic of a sunset that you just posted or the kissy face you messaged directly to them. Android has changed tremendously in the last ten years. Returning to modern hardware after our historical series , I was struck by the visual differences across versions. LG G7 ThinQ to Have Boombox-Like Sound, Feature DTS:X Immersive Audio

In typical LG fashion, we're learning more about the upcoming G7 ThinQ via official channels, even though we're 2 days away from an unveiling in NYC. This is fine with us, so long as we get a better understanding of what to expect later this week. Yesterday, LG detailed all of the different audio aspects of the device. For those who cry for dual stereo speakers, that doesn't appear to be the case on the G7 ThinQ. Instead, LG is utilizing a single speaker, but incorporating a design that's essentially an echo chamber. In LG's writeup, they call it a " Boombox speaker ," but what's actually happening is a bit more interesting.
