Thought 25MP selfie cameras were crazy? ZTE has phone with 32MP selfie camera in works
It seems like just the other day that 5MP and 8MP selfie cameras first emerged, but 2018 saw many OEMs moving to higher resolution front-facing snappers. Now, a new regulatory filing has revealed a phone with a monster, 32MP selfie camera.
A filing on China's TENAA website revealed the new ZTE phone (said to be the ZTE Blade V10), packing the model number V1000. The front-facing shooter is indeed listed as a 32MP selfie camera, and the phone appears to have a waterdrop notch.
We're assuming that ZTE is using Samsung's ISOCELL GD1 sensor here. The 32MP 0.8 micron pixel sensor boasts pixel-binning technology, allowing it to combine data from four adjacent pixels for better low-light shots at the expense of resolution. So it seems like ZTE's phone could shoot pixel-binned selfies that are roughly equivalent to an 8MP 1.6 micron pixel camera.
The Samsung sensor also offers real-time HDR video capabilities, so hopefully ZTE uses this tech to improve dynamic range in tricky situations (e.g. backlit scenes).
Otherwise, you're looking at a phone that seems to be an upper mid range purchase. Expect a 6.3-inch full HD+ LCD screen, a 2Ghz to 2.1Ghz octa-core chipset, 4GB to 6GB of RAM, 64GB to 128GB of expandable storage, and a 3,100mAh battery. A 16MP+5MP rear camera pairing, headphone jack, and rear fingerprint scanner rounds out the package.
