Redmi Note 7 is official with a huge 48MP camera, 6.3-inch Full HD display and 4,000mAh battery

Known for producing budget-conscious handsets for Xiaomi in previous years, Redmi has officially launched its very first handset as an independent entity. The newly announced Redmi Note 7 features a metal and glass design, along with a 6.3-inch display, a massive 48MP rear camera, and a big 4,000mAh battery.

Besides being the first phone to be launched by the newly independent Redmi brand, the Note 7 is also the first phone to launch in China featuring an 18-month warranty.

The Redmi Note 7 features a big 6.3-inch display with FHD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio that is protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 5. As you might expect, there is a notch present in the form of a teardrop with houses the 13MP front-facing camera. There's a dual camera setup on the rear panel consisting of a big 48MP sensor (as seen with the Huawei Nova 4 and Honor View 20) with F/1.8 aperture that can switch between taking images between 0.8-micron pixels and 1.6-micron pixels. The secondary sensor is of the 5MP variety and provides the depth of field information for those portrait and bokeh shots that everyone loves taking.

Under the hood, a Snapdragon 660 provides the grunt along with a choice of either 3GB/4GB/6GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of built-in storage. There's a big 4,000mAh battery that supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4 technology via the USB Type-C charging port. The Redmi Note 7 has a fingerprint reader in the glass rear panel although it also features AI Face Unlock. And if that isn't quite enough, the phone also boasts an IR blaster for when you forget where your TV's remote control is.

The Redmi Note 7 is available to preorder in China today and will be available from in the shops from January 15 with the 3GB/32GB version priced at RMB 999 (around $150). The more expensive, higher specced variants will be available at a later date.

He's been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries a Pixel 2 XL, Huawei P20 Pro, and a Huawei MediaPad M5 (8.4) in his pockets and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around in his backpack. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he's an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
