Galaxy S11 could be powered by Exynos 9830 SoC, hints One UI 2.0 beta

The Exynos 990 SoC might not end up powering the upcoming Galaxy S11 series. The flagship could employ the unannounced Exynos 9830 chipset instead. This is according to the latest One UI 2.0 beta release for the Galaxy S10 series. As passed along by @MaxWinebach via Twitter, the latest beta release mentions support for both the Exynos 9830 and the Snapdragon 865 chipsets, neither of which are official.

Galaxy S11 to be powered by Exynos 9830 or 990

Technically speaking, the Exynos 990 introduced by Samsung last week seems like the perfect fit for an upcoming flagship phone. It not only promises noticeable performance and power efficiency gains but also offers support for 120Hz displays and LPDDR5 memory.

Regardless of the chipset's prowess, it looks like Samsung is still working on the Exynos 9830, or what could be the true successor to the ongoing Exynos 9825 silicon that beats at the heart of the Galaxy Note 10 lineup. Once again, the Galaxy S11 series is expected to adopt one of Qualcomm's chipset solutions in some markets, i.e., the so-called Snapdragon 865.

It's too early to confirm which Exynos silicon the Galaxy S11 will employ in other regions. The Exynos 9830 may have been mentioned in the latest One UI 2.0 beta, but as we've exclusively reported a few months ago, the Galaxy S11 lineup is expected to ship with One UI 2.1. If this will be the case, would support for the Exynos 9830 even be needed in One UI 2.0?

This sort of leaves us with two possibilities. On one hand, Samsung may have added support for the Exynos 9830 and Snapdragon 865 chipsets in One UI 2.0 beta preemptively, because the Galaxy S11 could be planned to enter the testing stages running One UI 2.0 (even though it will ship with One UI 2.1). On the other hand, Samsung could plan on using these unannounced chipsets for another upcoming high-end smartphone running One UI 2.0 out of the box. Time will tell how the situation evolves. We'll keep you up to speed as we learn more.

Apple has decided to postpone new features in iOS in favor of improving the reliability and performance of the operating system, as according to a report by Axios. According to the report, Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President, Software Engineering, announced the revised plan to employees at a meeting earlier this month. This pushes features like refresh of the homescreen and in-car user interface, improvements to core apps like Mail and camera experience to 2019.
