Samsung to fix the Galaxy Note 10 and S10 fingerprint flaw within 24 hours

Samsung recently acknowledged the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S10 fingerprint sensor flaw that has been widely reported on over the past week. The company confirmed that it was working on a software fix that would be rolled out in the coming days.

The company has already rolled out this fix for eligible devices in South Korea. Samsung has also issued a notice through its Samsung Members app confirming that this fix will be rolled out within 24 hours.

Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S10 fingerprint flaw fix will be out in 24 hours

The flaw only affects users that have a certain kind of silicone cover installed on their Galaxy Note 10 or Galaxy S10 series device, the kind that cover the front too. Those who don't use such a case need not worry. The textured surface on the inside of the cover can be recognized as a fingerprint when they're first registered on the device. So anyone can just press down on the sensor and it would pick up that pattern and unlock the device.

Samsung has put out a notice which details how the fix is going to be rolled out. Users will receive an update notification titled "Biometrics update," and they just have to tap on Update when it arrives. Once the update is installed, users are advised to remove the cover and delete all fingerprints previously registered on the device. The fingerprints are then to be registered once again without a cover applied. Users should ensure that their fingerprint is scanned in its entirety.

The company adds that the notification for a new update will only be sent to devices that have fingerprints registered. This notification will be sent within 24 hours to Galaxy Note 10, Note 10+, Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10 5G devices. No notifications will be sent to devices that don't have fingerprints registered. This notification can't be removed until the update is installed. What this means is that the update isn't going to be a full system OTA.

We've already seen reports of this notice appearing in Samsung Members for users in the United States, Canada and in markets across Europe. It's only a matter of hours now before this fix is rolled out to eligible devices.
