Samsung Space Selfie campaign concludes early but we get one selfie up

Samsung's Space Selfie campaign came to an end just a little bit earlier than planned as the company decided to bring the high-altitude balloon back to Earth ahead of schedule. According to a spokesperson cited by The Independent, the balloon's planned descent to Earth had already begun when unfavorable weather conditions forced Samsung to prematurely soft-land the unmanned vehicle in a selected rural area.

The Space Selfie balloon landed on Saturday morning on a field in Merrill, Michigan. It didn't damage any properties or cause any injuries, and Samsung apologized for any inconvenience the minor incident may have created.

Samsung Space Selfie balloon returns safely to Earth

The idea behind the Space Selfie campaign was simple: send a selfie, group photo, or pet photo to Samsung and you'll get a chance for the image to be sent into the Earth's stratosphere along with a Galaxy S10 5G. The photo would then be recaptured on camera with planet Earth serving as the background. The promotional video below explains it all.

The campaign kicked off last week and the sign-up period was supposed to end on October 31. Evidently, with the high-altitude balloon having landed earlier than planned, the sign-up period concluded earlier as well.

Nevertheless, some Galaxy fans and celebrities got the chance to send their selfies into the Earth's stratosphere. Our forum moderator, Henk, was one of the lucky winners to have received his Space Selfie before the vehicle was brought back down to Earth ahead of schedule. Check it out! Samsung even included a few details on temperature, heading, and the exact time when the Space Selfie was captured.

Did you get the chance to send your selfie into the stratosphere, or were you leaving it for the last minute and this earlier-than-planned landing has made impossible for you to participate?
