July 2020 Android security update reaches Galaxy Fold

The July 2020 Android security update is now being deployed to select Galaxy Fold models, with Samsung initiating the rollout just yesterday. Denoted by build number F900FXXS4BTF2, the new over-the-air download debuted in over a dozen European markets at once, in addition to reaching Kazakhstan and Russia. Much like its designation suggests, this particular release is intended solely for the international, LTE-only variant (SM-F900F) of the Galaxy Fold.

The U.S. model (SM-F900U1) and 5G-ready edition (SM-F907B) of the device are expected to follow suit in a matter of days. Samsung already distributed the same patch version to the majority of its contemporary flagships, as well as some unique-but-decisively-non-premium smartphones like the Galaxy Z Flip. Save for the new security patch level dated July 1st, this week's release targeting the original Galaxy Fold contains no other additions or changes.

Patching things up ahead of the big event

If your Galaxy Phone hasn't already prompted you to install the new update, try triggering the download manually by going to Settings » Software update » Download and install. Alternatively, pay SamMobile's firmware archive a visit and get your hands on full system images that you can flash to an eligible Galaxy Fold.

This is likely the final Android security update to hit the Galaxy Fold before Samsung officially announces the successor to its first foldable smartphone. Namely, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 launch is rumored to be happening early next month at an online-only product event. What's more, the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Tab S7 lineups are both expected to be unveiled as part of the same happening.
