Samsung Quantum Dot TV ranked first in German consumer review

For at least the last two years, Samsung has been heavily investing in Quantum Dot TVs, and said earlier this year that it would bring 14 new Quantum Dot TVs to market. Samsung is now seeing the fruit of its labor. A new German consumer review has given Samsung’s Super Ultra High-Definition (SUHD) Quantum Dot TV the top grade in a contest involving 935 TVs.

Quantum Dot TVs match the brightness of OLED TVs while staying more inexpensive on price. OLED TVs have fantastic color but cost much more, making them a no-go for manufacturers looking to profit in the consumer electronics market. Samsung’s 10-year, burn-in warranty for its Quantum Dot TVs will only add to the company’s success in the TV business.

The Korean giant’s Quantum Dot TVs are making a splash worldwide, with the SUHD TV with Quantum Dot display being named the United Kingdom’s “TV of the Year” last month. Just last week, Samsung confirmed its acquisition of US-based Quantum Dot display company QD Vision, with an investment in Quantum Dot display manufacturer Nanosys a year ago.

Samsung’s Quantum Dot investment extends to gamers as well, with the company having announced the global launch of its Quantum Dot curved gaming monitor a few weeks ago.

Samsung Display remains the leader in global display market

The latest data from IHS Markit shows that Samsung Display has retained its dominant position as the top global smartphone display vendor in the first quarter of this year. It was able to do that as more smartphone manufacturers opted for OLED panels for their premium devices. Samsung picked up the bulk of those orders. Samsung's display affiliate is estimated to have shipped $3.4 billion worth of smartphone displays in the first quarter ending March 2019. It accounted for 40.2 percent of the smartphone display market in this period. Samsung Display also accounted for 80 percent of OLED panel supplies. Google Play Points reward program is official, but only in Japan for now

... Earlier this month, Cody discovered evidence for a loyalty program  in a teardown of the Google Play app, and now we're seeing the first official word about it. The rewards scheme is called Play Points and has gone live in Japan, according to a support page for the app. Users can join the program by navigating to the 'Play Points' section in the app's hamburger menu. To begin with, one point will be awarded for every ¥100 (about $0.90) spent on apps and games — to be used on IAPs or converted to Google Play credit — but as you progress, higher levels can be achieved with even greater rewards. Some OnePlus 6Ts have an issue with waves of static on the display

Based on a handful of reports on the OnePlus product forums, some 6T owners have run into a problem with their phone's display in which a pixelated sort of "wave" or pulse of bright colors travels up or down the screen. A reliable trigger can't seem to be found, but for those that are affected, it appears to happen more often on the lock screen while using either OnePlus' face recognition or the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. The issue — which our Cody Toombs aptly described as "like something changed in the Matrix" — is demonstrated in the video below: VIDEO Based on reports, a factory reset can't fix the problem, and it doesn't appear to be tied to any specific SKU.
