Wileyfox Returns With Some Great Budget Smartphone Deals

Following last month's reports that U.K.-based budget smartphone maker Wileyfox would be making a return under STK's management, the company has relaunched with some pretty good deals on smartphones. In fact, the OEM is selling nine handsets, including bundles.  Each falls under the £220 price range that the full range includes the Android-based  Swift 2, Swift 2 Plus, Swift 2 X, Spark, Spark X, and Spark Plus – as well as the Windows-based Wileyfox Pro. That's hardly surprising since STK did promise to honor Wileyfox's warranties and to continue shipping the previously released devices while also improving the update rollout schedule for those.

What may be a bit unexpected are the deals the company is offering in order to move those handsets. However, it's worth pointing out that those aren't going to last for long at all – only around seven days according to the site. Starting on the most affordable end of the spectrum, the Wileyfox Spark Plus is currently being offered for just £99.99 rather than its release price of £119.99. That price nets buyers an oleophobic-coated, scratch-resistant 5-inch HD display embedded in bezels that are slightly larger than some newer smartphones. The screen is accompanied by an 8-megapixel selfie camera, while a 13-megapixel main camera sits on the back. Inside, there's 16GB of expandable storage backed by 2GB of RAM empowering Android 7.0. None of that is necessarily groundbreaking but it's a decent price for a decent set of specs. A far better deal is for Wileyfox's Swift 2 X bundle, which includes somewhat better internals and one of Amazon's second-generation Echo Dot devices for just £199.99. That's nearly £20 off of the original price for just the phone. The Swift 2 X features an extra 1GB of RAM and double the capacity of the previous entry. It's also got a 5.2-inch FHD display with an aluminum frame and a bolstered main camera at 16-megapixels. Inside, that's driven by an octa-core Snapdragon 430 SoC for more power and quick charging of the 3,010mAh battery pack.

Finally, the most high-value deal on offer has to be for the company's Swift 2 Plus bundle. That carries nearly identical specifications to the Swift 2 X but in a slightly smaller form factor at just five inches. There's been no money taken off of its original cost at £189.99. Instead, the company has chosen to include a ruggedized Kaiser Baas X90 Action Camera. That's an easily mountable 1080p rated camera in a box that's not dissimilar to how a GoPro works. It can be used to snap photos and video in a wide variety of environments and for even the most extreme activities without so much worry that the camera will be damaged. As mentioned above, none of these is anything overly special but that's not really their point. Moreover, the company is expected to reveal and release new devices over the coming months. For now, though, these are actually some very good deals and well worth a look for anybody in the market for a new budget handset.
