Amazon Targets Hospitality Market With Alexa Experiences

Amazon is targeting the hospitality market with Alexa experiences. More specifically, it has officially announced a new initiative called Alexa for Hospitality that will attempt to bring on various hotels in offering Alexa functions to their guests. This will be an invitation-only service for the time being but Amazon already has partners on board that will putting Alexa in their room for people who stay at their establishments. At the moment Amazon is currently only partnering with Marriott International, but Marriott International includes a wide range of hotels including Aloft Hotels, Westin Hotels & Resorts, Marriott Hotels, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, and Autograph Collection Hotels. That said Amazon also notes that these experiences will be available this Summer but doesn't mention exact dates, or if the experiences will be available in every hotel location from these specific hotels.

As for what the experiences will include, Amazon notes that hotels which are invited and accept the invitation to be part of the new initiative will offer Echo devices in the rooms for guests so they can interact with various things by voice. The voice commands can range from asking where the pool is to requesting room service, but won't be limited to just a few different options. Guests will also be able to ask about the hours of operation for the pool and the fitness center, request housekeeping, and even control various things around the room like lights, blinds, thermostats, TVs, and more.

In addition to using Alexa for things that tie directly into the hotel room and services, guests can also use the in-room Echo speakers to ask all kinds of questions, check flight times and status, and even stream music or podcasts through services like iHeart Radio and Tunein Radio. Though users will need to connect their Alexa account to utilize the Alexa for Hospitality features, Amazon has designed the technology to disconnect the accounts of users automatically so the speakers are ready for the next guest, which helps to preserve the security of user accounts for hardware that is essentially being shared.
