Cosmic Watch updated to v2.0 with real-time sky view, astronomical event notifications, and more

Despite the name, Cosmic Watch isn't just another watch face app. It certainly does tell you the time, but it's much more than that. This app models the solar system and the night sky, helping you to explore the wonders of the cosmos. The app just got a big v2.0 update that adds real-time sky views as well as various new display options and data on all the planets of the solar system.

If you've been using Android for long enough, you might recall Google Sky Map. That app let you see planets and constellations in real time, but Google stopped maintaining it ages ago. With the new real-time view, Cosmic Watch offers a similar experience. Just point your phone skyward, and start looking around. The app can help you find various celestial objects and understand how they move through the sky.

There are many different view modes in Cosmic Watch, including a new solar system view. That's a more traditional layout where you can see the orbit of other planets. The app still has the classic "celestial sphere" that shows the Earth with everything orbiting around it. The clock displays look coolest in this mode, but seeing them from the "inside" in sky view mode is cool, too.

Cosmic Watch is a real treat for astronomy fans, but it's not free. The app will run you $4.49 in the Play Store.

Waymo and Uber has reached a settlement in their self-driving car case. The announcement came as a big shock, even though I wrote yesterday that Waymo's case was looking oddly weak . Parties are free to settle in the middle of trial (heck, they can settle while the jury is considering a verdict, and they can settle even after the verdict is out) but it's pretty rare. 2018 Samsung QLED TVs will be revealed on March 7

At CES 2018 , Samsung showcased its vision for TVs and other home appliances in the IoT era. Though the company showcased  'The Wall,' its first 146-inch modular MicroLED TV , and an 8K QLED TV at the event, it didn't launch any of the mainstream QLED TVs for 2018 at the event. The more mainstream SmartTVs were expected to launch at a later date. 2018 Samsung QLED TVs will feature Bixby Earlier this month, a report from Korea stated that Samsung is going to launch a new Bixby-powered TV in New York in March. In line with the news, Samsung has scheduled an event titled 'The First Look' for March 7 at the American Stock Exchange in Manhattan, New York.
