Google Partners Up With JD.com, Will Invest $550 Million

Google has just announced, via an official blog post, that it has partnered up with JD (JingDong Mall), one of the largest and fastest growing e-commerce marketplaces in the world. JD.com is a Chinese company, for those of you who do not know, and it is huge in China, actually. In its blog post, Google notes that consumers in Southeast Asia are expected to spend $88.1 billion online by 2025, and that consumers in general in the Asia-Pacific region are ready to buy, but are not that easy to please.

Google has announced that it will invest $550 million in JD.com, as the company wants to "accelerate how retail ecosystems deliver consumer experiences". Google said that applying JD.com's supply chain and logistics expertise to its own technology strengths will help the company explore new ways retail chains can improve their business, in other words, how can they make shopping experiences more enjoyable for consumers. Google has also announced that, as part of this partnership, JD.com will join Google Shopping and bring a number of high-quality products to consumers in a number of regions all over the world. That is pretty much all the info that Google shared via its official blog, but it seems like a ton of JD.com's products will be made available via Google Shopping, though we're still not sure what products exactly, but make sure that a ton of tech will be available at some point in the future.

JD.com is extremely popular in China, that retail is also well-known for selling a ton of Chinese smartphones, and the company also tends to get some limited time exclusives when it comes to smartphones, in other words, JD.com tends to be the first to sell particular smartphones in China. Having said that, it is possible that some of those devices will become available via Google Shopping, and will give consumers outside of China to get their hands on them, though it remains to be seen if it will happen and which smartphones will become available, because devices that JD.com is usually selling are adapted for the Chinese market.
