AR is still a budding technology, but it has the prospects to become ubiquitous in the future. Both Google and Apple offer a for-the-masses AR platform for their respective ecosystems, in the form of ARKit and ARCore, which can be implemented by developers to create all kinds of interesting experiences. But getting into augmented reality is not an easy thing for people without any programming experience, and Google wants to change this.
