Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1 Costs $1500, Has Entry-Level Specs

Panasonic has announced the Toughbook FZ-T1, an Android-powered rugged handset targeted at businesses. The phone is the latest addition to the list of rugged devices that the Japanese tech firm has released within the last few years. Like previous rugged offerings from the company, the Toughbook FZ-T1 includes an integrated barcode scanner. The scanner can be triggered by pressing either one of the two buttons located on either side of the device. In addition, the Toughbook FZ-T1 has been tested for compliance with the MIL-STD-810G military durability standard and can survive drops from a height of 1.5 meters. Moreover, the Toughbook FZ-T1 boasts an IP68 water and dust resistance certification.

The Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1 is powered by the Snapdragon 212 chipset, which is comprised of a quad-core ARM Cortex A7 CPU and the Adreno 304 GPU. Despite the product's low-end chipset, the device ships with Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed. It sports a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, includes 2GB of RAM, and boasts 16GB of flash storage which can be expanded using a microSD card. The device also comes with a single rear camera setup that is equipped with an 8-megapixel sensor. Given that this product is targeted at enterprise customers, Panasonic also equipped it with a number of additional security features. These include the Complete Android Security and Service (COMPASS) 2.0 from Panasonic, and the built-in Arm TrustZone. The device includes a 3,200mAh battery that's warm-swappable, meaning users can change it without turning off the smartphone.

The Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1 will be available in two different hardware variants. The Wi-Fi-only model will cost £1,142, which translates to $1,517 at the current exchange rate. On the other hand, the 4G LTE model will ship with a price tag of £1,214 ($1,613). The Wi-Fi-only variant of the Toughbook FZ-T1 will become available in Europe starting this August, while the 4G LTE version of the product will begin shipping a month later.
