Verizon Hum picks up Google Assistant integration for your car

Verizon offers the Hum as a connected add-on to cars, allowing you to monitor your vehicle's status, serve up LTE data via a mobile hotspot, and more. But CES 2019 has been a major showcase for bringing Google Assistant to more devices, and Verizon is next on the list to chase that trend.

This integration works with the HumX, which utilizes a small speaker in your car for taking and managing phone calls. You'll be able to use the call button on the speaker to call up Google Assistant and do everything you'd expect, like asking for directions, finding nearby restaurants, and getting answers to questions, just like you'd get from a typical Google Home. No "Hey Google" support, unfortunately, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that in an updated model.

And since the Hum is now a connected gadget, you'll also be able to use your other devices to control it. You can use your phone to check on your car's location or status, for example, even if you're not in the car.

This upgrade to the Hum is expected to roll out in Q2 of this year.

... In its quest to become the only app where you share photos, moments, and messages, Instagram is adding one new feature to its direct messages: activity status. Just like you'd see when a person was last active on WhatsApp or Telegram or plenty of other messaging services, now you can do the same on Instagram and chide them for not replying with "oohs" and "aahs" to the preettay pic of a sunset that you just posted or the kissy face you messaged directly to them. Android has changed tremendously in the last ten years. Returning to modern hardware after our historical series , I was struck by the visual differences across versions. For a closer look, we rolled back to an even earlier build on our T-Mobile G1/HTC Dream. For anyone who might be curious, here's a quick visual exploration of Android 1.0 vs. Android 9 Pie.   Students may now apply to join Samsung Campus by filling their application for the third session of the Samsung Campus “Web & Apps Coding” training course. Young people between the ages of 18 and 25, with no high school diploma and passionate about computing, have until midnight on September 18 th to register on www.samsungcampus.fr .
