Samsung Galaxy J8 gets Android Pie update in India

Samsung was quick to release the Android Pie update for its Galaxy J series phones, with the Galaxy J6 and Galaxy J8 being the first two to receive the latest version of Android. The Galaxy J6 and J8 had considerable success in the Indian market, and following the release of the Pie update for the Galaxy J6 in the country earlier this week, it is now the turn of the Galaxy J8.

Galaxy J8 Pie update comes with April security patch

The 1.2GB update is rolling out over the air in India today, and in addition to most of the Android Pie features and the new One UI interface, it comes with the latest Android security patch. Galaxy J8 owners should be able to start downloading the update by tapping the Download updates manually option in the Software update menu of the phone's settings. The big update is best downloaded over a Wi-Fi connection, and it's also a good idea to have at least 30 percent battery charge as major OS updates take a long time to install.

We also have the Android Pie firmware for India on our database, and those unwilling to download the update over the air can download the firmware and flash it manually on their Galaxy J8 using a Windows PC. Another option is Samsung's Smart Switch program, which works on both Windows and Mac PCs.

Samsung Display remains the leader in global display market

The latest data from IHS Markit shows that Samsung Display has retained its dominant position as the top global smartphone display vendor in the first quarter of this year. It was able to do that as more smartphone manufacturers opted for OLED panels for their premium devices. Samsung picked up the bulk of those orders. Samsung's display affiliate is estimated to have shipped $3.4 billion worth of smartphone displays in the first quarter ending March 2019. It accounted for 40.2 percent of the smartphone display market in this period. Samsung Display also accounted for 80 percent of OLED panel supplies. ARCore apps are now available for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China

Google's ARCore apps can now run on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China. The apps are available in the Xiaomi App Store through a partnership with Google. A tweet from the Google AR & VR Twitter account announced the news today, although the exact ARCore apps that are now compatible with the Mi Mix 2S were not named. Google did say in the tweet that more partners for ARCore are coming soon. The Mi Mix 2S is the first phone from the manufacturer to support ARCore. Some OnePlus 6Ts have an issue with waves of static on the display

Based on a handful of reports on the OnePlus product forums, some 6T owners have run into a problem with their phone's display in which a pixelated sort of "wave" or pulse of bright colors travels up or down the screen. A reliable trigger can't seem to be found, but for those that are affected, it appears to happen more often on the lock screen while using either OnePlus' face recognition or the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone.
