Samsung reportedly developing a new Chromebook Pro

Samsung reignited interest in high-end Chromebooks with the Chromebook Pro which was launched in 2017. The company has since launched updated variants of the Chromebook Plus and it has long been due to launch a new Pro variant. A new report suggests that the company may have begun work on a new Chromebook Pro.

It's still early days so not a lot of information is available about this new device right now. However, it's believed that the new Chromebook Pro may feature Intel's 9th Generation Comet Lake processors. The chips aren't going to arrive until later this year.

The new Chromebook Pro may not be unveiled before CES next year

Samsung did launch a handful of new Chromebook Plus variants late last year which included one LTE model as well. It had quietly relaunched the Chromebook Pro with a backlit keyboard earlier. So it's definitely time for Samsung to come out with a new Chromebook for power users.

ChromeUnboxed has spotted the addition of this new Chromebook to the Chromium repositories. It's unclear what features this device, codenamed "Kohaku" is going to have. There's enough evidence in the repositories to suggest that this is a Samsung device. This includes emails from one Jongpil Jung who has worked on almost every Samsung Chromebook over the past few years.

It's believed that this is Samsung's next flagship Chromebook. Considering the development timeline, we may not see the device until the Consumer Electronics Show 2020. This means that we'll most likely be hearing more about the device as Samsung's work on the new Chromebook continues.

Samsung Display remains the leader in global display market

The latest data from IHS Markit shows that Samsung Display has retained its dominant position as the top global smartphone display vendor in the first quarter of this year. It was able to do that as more smartphone manufacturers opted for OLED panels for their premium devices. Samsung picked up the bulk of those orders. Samsung's display affiliate is estimated to have shipped $3.4 billion worth of smartphone displays in the first quarter ending March 2019. It accounted for 40.2 percent of the smartphone display market in this period. Samsung Display also accounted for 80 percent of OLED panel supplies. ARCore apps are now available for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China

Google's ARCore apps can now run on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China. The apps are available in the Xiaomi App Store through a partnership with Google. A tweet from the Google AR & VR Twitter account announced the news today, although the exact ARCore apps that are now compatible with the Mi Mix 2S were not named. Google did say in the tweet that more partners for ARCore are coming soon. The Mi Mix 2S is the first phone from the manufacturer to support ARCore. Some OnePlus 6Ts have an issue with waves of static on the display

Based on a handful of reports on the OnePlus product forums, some 6T owners have run into a problem with their phone's display in which a pixelated sort of "wave" or pulse of bright colors travels up or down the screen. A reliable trigger can't seem to be found, but for those that are affected, it appears to happen more often on the lock screen while using either OnePlus' face recognition or the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone.
