Samsung could launch the T5 portable SSD next month

Samsung is currently the largest SSD maker in the world, and after launching the impressive Portable SSD T3 last year, the company is geared up to launch the successor sometime next month. According to an exclusive report from The Korea Herald, Samsung will start the production of its next-generation portable SSD solution next week.

Dubbed Samsung Portable SSD T5, the storage solution is reportedly based on the company’s fourth-generation 64-layer V NAND flash memory. The production of this storage device is expected to start next week, and it could be launched sometime next month. Even though it has higher storage capacity, it is expected to be lighter, stronger, and faster than last year’s T3.

Thanks to 64 layers of stacked cell-arrays (with a storage density of 512Gb per die), the Portable SSD T5′s data transfer speed is expected to be somewhere around 800Mbps, up from 450Mbps in last year’s model. Samsung could launch the upcoming variant in Black, Coral Blue, and Silver, matching color schemes of its new high-end smartphones.

Samsung Display remains the leader in global display market

The latest data from IHS Markit shows that Samsung Display has retained its dominant position as the top global smartphone display vendor in the first quarter of this year. It was able to do that as more smartphone manufacturers opted for OLED panels for their premium devices. Samsung picked up the bulk of those orders. Samsung's display affiliate is estimated to have shipped $3.4 billion worth of smartphone displays in the first quarter ending March 2019. It accounted for 40.2 percent of the smartphone display market in this period. Samsung Display also accounted for 80 percent of OLED panel supplies. ARCore apps are now available for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China

Google's ARCore apps can now run on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China. The apps are available in the Xiaomi App Store through a partnership with Google. A tweet from the Google AR & VR Twitter account announced the news today, although the exact ARCore apps that are now compatible with the Mi Mix 2S were not named. Google did say in the tweet that more partners for ARCore are coming soon. The Mi Mix 2S is the first phone from the manufacturer to support ARCore. Some OnePlus 6Ts have an issue with waves of static on the display

Based on a handful of reports on the OnePlus product forums, some 6T owners have run into a problem with their phone's display in which a pixelated sort of "wave" or pulse of bright colors travels up or down the screen. A reliable trigger can't seem to be found, but for those that are affected, it appears to happen more often on the lock screen while using either OnePlus' face recognition or the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. The issue — which our Cody Toombs aptly described as "like something changed in the Matrix" — is demonstrated in the video below: VIDEO Based on reports, a factory reset can't fix the problem, and it doesn't appear to be tied to any specific SKU.
