Lenovo announces a bunch of new budget Android tablets

Android tablets may not have the best run of late, but they're not dead yet — at least, not if Lenovo has anything to say about it, with the company announcing no less than five new Android tablets to replace last year's lineup. The new models are divided into three groups: the budget E series, which comes in seven-, eight-, and 10-inch models, the midrange M10, and the more premium P10 (both of which are 10-inch models). Here are all the details:

Lenovo Tab P10

  • 1920 x 1080, 10.1-inch display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor (Octa-Core, 1.8 GHz)
  • Up to 4GB of RAM
  • Up to 32GB of storage
  • 8MP rear, 5MP front-facing camera
  • Four speakers, fingerprint sensor

As you can see, none of these tablets are exactly lining up to blow anyone's mind with wildly powerful specs, but they're all more designed as family devices, not productivity powerhouses. Fortunately, the prices reflect that, too.

The Lenovo Tab E7 is the cheapest, starting at $69.99 when it releases in October exclusively at walmart.com. The Tab E8 is next cheapest at $99.99, available now at Walmart, while the Tab E10 will cost $129.99 when it launches in October.

As for the more powerful Tab M10 and Tab P10, Lenovo hasn't given any release date or pricing information yet, but promises preorders available later in the winter.

Instagram starts showing activity status in direct messages

... In its quest to become the only app where you share photos, moments, and messages, Instagram is adding one new feature to its direct messages: activity status. Just like you'd see when a person was last active on WhatsApp or Telegram or plenty of other messaging services, now you can do the same on Instagram and chide them for not replying with "oohs" and "aahs" to the preettay pic of a sunset that you just posted or the kissy face you messaged directly to them. Android 1.0 versus Android 9: A visual tour of how far we've come in a decade

Android has changed tremendously in the last ten years. Returning to modern hardware after our historical series , I was struck by the visual differences across versions. LG G7 ThinQ to Have Boombox-Like Sound, Feature DTS:X Immersive Audio

In typical LG fashion, we're learning more about the upcoming G7 ThinQ via official channels, even though we're 2 days away from an unveiling in NYC. This is fine with us, so long as we get a better understanding of what to expect later this week. Yesterday, LG detailed all of the different audio aspects of the device. For those who cry for dual stereo speakers, that doesn't appear to be the case on the G7 ThinQ. Instead, LG is utilizing a single speaker, but incorporating a design that's essentially an echo chamber. In LG's writeup, they call it a " Boombox speaker ," but what's actually happening is a bit more interesting.
