Lenovo Debuts Its Smart Home Essentials Lineup – IFA 2018

Lenovo has finally jumped into the smart home space, and in a big way at IFA 2018. It is announcing three products as part of the Smart Home Essentials lineup, which includes a smart plus, a smart bulb and a smart camera. The essentials really, and they are all going to be somewhat inexpensive as well, when they do go on sale.

The smart plug from Lenovo is a pretty small, simple-to-use device from the company. It can be plugged into an outlet and then allow users to control that outlet with its smartphone through the new Lenovo app. This has a max current of 15A, and a max power of 1800W. On standby, it'll use around 0.7W which is almost nothing, and means that you won't be paying a whole lot of cash for energy when this is not in use. The Lenovo Smart Plug is also pretty small, so won't block another outlet that is above or below the outlet.

The smart bulb is also pretty similar, allowing you to turn your existing lighting fixtures into a smart light. You can adjust the color temperature here, and also the brightness of the bulb. However, this is not a multicolor bulb, like many others out there. It does range from 2700K to 6500K, so you can make the light similar to daylight, or white and more natural. It has a lifetime rating of around 15,000 hours.

Finally, there is the Lenovo Smart Camera. This is going to record in up to 1080p at 30 frames-per-scond, and has a horizontal viewing angle of 355-degrees with a vertical viewing angle of 120-degrees. So you should be able to monitor an entire room with this camera. It does have a built-in microphone and speaker, for two audio. Lenovo has added night vision here, but like with most cameras, it's not going to be all that great, since there's no light. It will also send notifications when motion is detected.

All three of these Smart Home Essentials products will be compatible with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant, which means they will have voice-control. That is expected at this point in 2018, and definitely good to see. These will connect to the Lenovo Smart Display, and use that as the hub, or you can use the Lenovo Link App that will be available for both Android and iOS, to control them. The Lenovo Smart Plug and Smart Bulb will be available in November for $29.99 each. The Lenovo Smart Camera will be available in Q1 2019 for $99.99.
