OPPO Find X arrives in Australia on August 16th for $1,099 – Lamborghini edition coming soon

After a hiatus lasting several years, Oppo has returned to their flagship Find series phones this year with the OPPO Find X launched in June. The phone has made its way to Australia now with the handset going on-sale on August 16th.

Cameras

Like many OPPO Find series phones before it, the Find X features a first of sorts with a full-screen display that includes no notch. The lack of notch is thanks to their innovative camera system that hides both the front and rear cameras on a motorised platform – which OPPO says has been tested over 300,000 times – that rises and lowers into the body of the phone when required.

The 25MP front-facing 3D Camera sits next to a host of sensors for a 3D Structured Light Technology system that utilises 15,000 facial dot recognition points to build a face map. The system is called 'O-Face Recognition' (yep) which Oppo says is 20 times safer and faster than fingerprint recognition for unlocking the phone – and on that note there's no fingerprint sensor on the phone.

The Find X camera system is AI-enhanced on the front and rear. The 3D sensors on the front allow the phone to analyse your features 'to naturally personalise your selfie' while 3D lighting techniques are used to take artistic portraits. Dual 16MP and 20MP sensors on the rear can recognise 21 independent scenes, 800 scene combinations, and implement special optimisations for all of them.

The Phone

As for specs, the phone has a 6.4-inch 2340×1080 resolution AMOLED 19.5:9 aspect ratio Panoramic Arc Screen which OPPO says offers a 93.8% screen to body ratio. The phone comes in two 'gradient' colour combinations showing off the graceful 3D arc on the rear. The colour choices of Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue present a colourful effect in person that's hard to go past.

Under the hood, the Find X uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM, and has 128GB of on-board storage. The phone is powered by a 3,730mAh battery which of course supports OPPO's proprietary fast charging technology called 'VOOC'.

Running the show will be Color OS, based on Android 8.1 and OPPO says that the Find X will be updated to Android Pie. OPPO has embraced Google services though including both Google Lens and Google Assistant support in Color OS.

Oppo is also launching their version of Apple's Animoji, with the OPPO Omoji. Using the O-Face 3D Structure Light tech, OPPO's Find X will build Omoji that capture your facial expressions in real time and then let you export the results to an album or use them in chat apps.

After introducing the OPPO Find X on-stage in Paris, Managing Director at OPPO Australia, Michael Tran said

We're excited to announce the availability of the OPPO Find X in Australia. The device will be sure to challenge what Aussie consumers think is possible with a smartphone and shows what OPPO is capable of. OPPO's relentless efforts in creating smartphones that push the boundaries led to the creation of the Find Series. The Find X continues this trend and has delivered a completely new design to the Australian smartphone market that will resonate with Aussie consumers and challenge the status quo.

A surprise when opening the box for the Find X is the inclusion of a plastic case to protect the device from fingerprints and other day-to-day 'incidents'.

OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition

If the high end look and feel of the OPPO Find X wasn't enough, OPPO announced that they've partnered with Italian Supercar maker Lamborghini for the Automobili Lamborghini Edition.

The OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition introduces a slightly tweaked design with a carbon fibre layer peering through the 3D Arc glass rear and featuring a 3D engraved Lamborghini logo on the back. Under the hood it will also include a massive 512GB of on-board storage and it's the first OPPO phone to introduce Super VOOC Charging which will charge the 3,400mAh battery in the Lamborghnini edition in 35 minutes using a 10V5A charger.

In addition to the refined look of the phone, the OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition will arrive in a special edition packaging, with special edition yellow coloured braided USB cable.

Availability

So, the big question is where, when and how much? The OPPO Find X will go on-sale from tomorrow the 16th of August exclusively from JB HiFi for $1,099 in Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue. The OPPO Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition is coming to Australia in a limited run, though OPPO says that 'Pricing and availability to be confirmed'.
