Toshiba Adds Amazon Alexa To Its OLED, 4K HDR, FHD TVs – IFA 2018

Toshiba, today announced at IFA 2018 that it is going to be adding Amazon Alexa to most of its OLED, 4K HDR and Full HD TV sets in 2019. However, this currently only applies to those being sold in the UK and Germany. It is worth pointing out that this may expand to more countries next year when these TVs become available. These new TV sets will actually have Alexa built-in, instead of just simply being compatible with Alexa. This means that you can use your TV as an Amazon Echo to give Alexa commands, instead of having to give an Echo commands to control your TV.

These TVs from Toshiba will utilize a far-field microphone, which is going to bring more benefits to customers. Especially those that have made their home into a smart home, as customers will be able to control their smart lights, smart thermostats and much more from their TV. Alexa can also be used to find things to watch on TV, maybe a new show on Netflix. There are currently tens of thousands of Alexa skills available right now, and all of them will be available on these Toshiba TVs coming next year. Finally, on the Amazon front, Toshiba has also added Amazon Dash support to these TVs. The way Amazon Dash works with Toshiba's TVs is you will see when your remote batteries are getting low, and by pressing a button on the remote, you can immediately order new batteries via Amazon Dash and have them shipped to you via two-day shipping. This may sound like a bit of a gimmick, but it can be very helpful.

Alexa isn't the only thing that Toshiba is adding to its TVs this year. It is adding several other smart features to its TV lineup. It is adding more functionality to the Toshiba Smart Lounge Experience, by extending the range of entertainment that is available in its Smart Portal. It's also making this content easier to access. So you will have one-click access to apps like Netflix, thanks to them having dedicated buttons on the remote control. Toshiba has also added a "scroll as you view" menu that is customizable, and it will allow users to browse through other services (maybe Hulu, or HBO GO) without leaving what they are currently watching.
