FlexPai Foldable Device Makes Me Feel Old and Grouchy

Image
2018 was all about the notch. It seems 2019 may be all about folds , and for some odd reason, looking at foldable devices makes me feel like a cranky old man. You see, a device called  FlexPai was recently showcased at what appears to be an overseas industry event, and just like we imagined, it can bend, fold, and do all sorts of crazy things. But is it really necessary? That's what I can't figure out. While I get the concept just fine, with what's essentially a 4″ display folding into a 7.8″ display for consuming content, this rendition of the idea doesn't look all that great to me. Is this similar to what we'll see from LG and Samsung? As you'll see in the video below, as well as the photos we've included in this post, FlexPai can most definitely fold.   While I get why people might call this a folding phone, I refuse to do so. This thing is a folding tablet in my book, regardless if it folds into something more manageable and has cellular co

Samsung's SmartThings LTE Tracker is down to just $90 today

Image
Right now you can pick up the Samsung SmartThings Tracker with real-time LTE and GPS for just $89.99, which is $10 less than it normally sells for. This device was only announced back in September, and has sold steadily at the $100 price point since then. There are other Bluetooth trackers available, but this option from Samsung is one of the first with real-time LTE built-in, which allows you to see its location from anywhere, even if you aren't right next to it. The first year of service is included with the purchase, and after that it's $5 a month or $50 a year to continue with the LTE subscription. You can set up alerts for when the tracker arrives at or departs from a specific location, or when an SOS signal is sent. It's IP68 certified, which means it's water resistant, and rain won't destroy it. The internal battery is rechargeable and lasts 10 days per charge. Hands-On: OnePlus 6 gets Nightscape and other OnePlus 6T features in OxygenOS Beta 6, how to install [Video]

Image
We reported that the OnePlus 6 has already seen a multitude of add-ons that will also be found on the recently announced OnePlus 6T, music to the ears of OnePlus 6 owners. Nightscape, OnePlus' version of Google's Night Sight,  is the most notable addition. We'll have an in-depth test of Nightscape coming to our readers shortly.  While the changes are minor when compared to the previous beta update, there are some welcome additions. The navigation gestures get a much-needed tweak for a smoother experience, and there feels like more nuance and bounce when swiping up and scrolling within the open applications. As we have mentioned, the new 'About Phone' section has been given a complete overhaul, and looks like no other 'About' screen in the Android space. It looks much more organized and includes a nice little thumbnail of your current device alongside a list of key system information. The camera and gallery have had a few more notable improvement

Gboard now lets you make an emoji that looks just like you

Image
The custom emoji are part of the Minis sticker pack. New emojis are added to Android with every big software update, and while the collection of them is now more diverse than ever before, it can still sometimes be difficult to find one that looks just like you. Thanks to an update for the Minis sticker pack on Gboard, that's now changing . To make your own Emoji Minis, open Gboard, tap the sticker button near the bottom and then the Mini icon. You'll be prompted to take a selfie, and using its machine learning tech, Google will create a custom emoji-style sticker based on your appearance. From there, you can fine-tune your look and customize your hair, face shape, hats, and much more. Although you're technically making a sticker, it's designed to look just like Google's style of emoji for Android that's used in Oreo and Pie. Along with that, you can also use that same selfie to make Bold and Sweet style stickers. Emoji Minis are rolling out to Gb

Viber now allows users to edit sent messages

Image
... Making a typo you can't correct is one of the more frustrating parts of text communication. Viber seems to agree, because now you're able to edit messages you've sent through the service. Like in other apps that offer similar functions, edited messages will be marked as such to limit any possible confusion. Editing works about like you'd expect: long press the message you want to fix, tap edit, make your changes, and that's it. The message will show an indicator to denote that it's been edited, and the timestamp will change to reflect when the edit was made. Viber actually this update a few weeks ago on October 9 , saying that editing messages was coming to Android starting that day. According to the app's Play Store changelog, though, it didn't actually get the functionality until earlier this week. Here it is in full: WHAT'S NEW - Edit messages that you have already sent. - New, improved way to

OnePlus 6T: Which RAM and storage size should you buy?

Image
Best answer: If you don't have any preference on color, the base model of the OnePlus 6T with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will make most people happy. It has plenty of memory and storage for average use. Pay extra for the Midnight Black glass finish or 256GB of storage if you don't mind the cost, but don't pay just to get more RAM. OnePlus: OnePlus 6T ($549) Choose a color you like There are two different "colors" of the OnePlus 6T: Mirror Black and Midnight Black. They're both black ... but the finish applied to the glass is different. Mirror Black has a shiny exterior that picks up scratches and fingerprints much more easily, but has a bit more grip; Midnight Black has a soft frosted finish that's more slippery but doesn't gather fingerprints and just looks a whole lot nicer. Unfortunately, you can't get every RAM and storage combination in both colors. So whether you care more about your storage or your color doesn'

Google Pay now available for all Nordea customers

Image
Google Pay is still not as widely used globally as Google would want it to be because it takes time for banks to integrate it into their various products and of course all the various banking regulations per country. So every time a financial institution is added to their list of supported companies, it's good news for both Google and consumers. Finnish-based Nordea Bank has announced that their customers can now use Google Pay for both online and offline cardless mobile payments and this includes around 19 countries in Northern Europe. Nordea has actually been on a digital payment kick lately and adding Google Pay is significant for their customers in the Nordic region. All of the consumer cards and Nordea First Card can now be linked to their Google Pay account and so they can leave their cards at home and just use their Android smartphones to pay for purchases in stores that support the platform. For corporations that have accounts with Nordea, they can also add thei

Amazon's Fire TV Stick 4K Is Now Available In The US For $49

Image
Amazon announced its latest Fire TV product earlier this month, in the Fire TV Stick 4K. That product is now available - after nearly three weeks of pre-orders. So if you are looking for a new Fire TV Stick, now is the time to pick one up. Amazon isn't replacing its existing Fire TV Stick either, that one is still available for $39.99, with the 4K model costing $10 more at $49.99. That makes it a great deal for most people, and it means that the Fire TV Stick 4K is going to be a more popular model than the regular Fire TV Stick, as you might expect. For $49.99, you are getting a whole lot here, in the Fire TV Stick 4K. It is largely the same as the regular Fire TV Stick, but it has some upgraded internals - due to it boasting 4K content. It has a new WiFi antenna design, and this is optimized for 4K streaming. The reason for this is the fact that 4K content is larger than 1080p or 720p content, so having better WiFi connectivity is essential, that way the Fire TV Stick 4K isn't

Google and iRobot partner on using Roomba mapping to create a smarter home

Image
Over the past decade, Google has mapped the external world  extensively and increasingly wants to do the same for the indoors . For example, mapping stores could make it easier for customers to find products. Google is now partnering with Roomba-maker iRobot to get a better sense of your house and improve your smart home. iRobot's Roomba i7+ is the latest generation of the vacuuming robot and can map its surroundings to avoid obstacles and create "visual landmarks to keep track of where it's been and where it has yet to clean." This sensing capability allows the Roomba to learn the rooms in your home, with existing Google Assistant integration allowing you to direct where the robot should clean next. The two companies are now partnering on future functionality that takes advantage of the Roomba's mapping data and what it knows about where you live. For example, this spatial awareness could be used to simplify smart home setup. Working together, iRo

The most important Android smartphones since the Google Nexus 5

Image
The Nexus 5  was arguably one of the best flagships the Android world has ever seen. It had a significant impact on the mobile industry, delivering almost unprecedented value for money when $600 and $700 flagships were the norm. Many great phones have been released since it landed in 2013, but few (if any) have been as influential. To celebrate the phone's five-year anniversary, we've picked out five Android handsets from the intervening years we consider among the most important. Whether they picked up the Nexus 5's value-for-money baton, introduced a feature later aped by others, or raised the bar for the Android experience at large, here are our picks. Also read:  The five biggest things to happen to smartphones since the Nexus 5 OnePlus One The Nexus 5 delivered high-end specs in a cost-effective package, much like  OnePlus  when it launched its $299  OnePlus One  flagship back in 2014. That same year saw Google — no longer content to sell affordable fla

See the Lenovo Z5 Pro – the other sliding phone – a day early here

Image
weibo.com/ideamagic A month ago, Lenovo teased the arrival of a bezel-less Lenovo Z5 Pro. Now we have some leaked images. The device is set to launch tomorrow and appears to have a sliding mechanism akin to the Xioami Mi Mix 3. Pricing details and most of the specs are still unknown. Remember the Lenovo Z5 ? The company teased the device as being a superphone with a bezel-less display and massive amounts of storage. However, the Lenovo Z5 turned out to have a big ol' notch and a totally average amount of internal storage. Tomorrow, Lenovo will release the Lenovo Z5 Pro which looks to fulfill at least one of the broken promises of its predecessor: a nearly bezel-less display. That's because the Lenovo Z5 Pro will have a sliding back mechanism, much like the previously-launched Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 . Although Lenovo has teased the phone already a few times, we now have some leaked images (via  GSM Arena ) which give us a better idea of what the device looks l
