Unlocked Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be sold by Best Buy in May

Samsung’s carrier partners in the United States have confirmed that they will open pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ by tomorrow and will release the handset on April 21. However, what about the customers who want a factory unlocked unit? They will be delighted to know that this time around, they won’t have to wait for too long.

It took three months for the unlocked Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge to become available in the United States after the carrier-locked versions were released. With the Galaxy S8, customers will only have to wait for a few weeks.

Best Buy has confirmed that it’s going to start selling unlocked units of Samsung’s new flagship in May. It has already put up listings on its online store for both variants, asking $724.99 for the Galaxy S8 and $824.99 for the Galaxy S8+.

It remains to be seen though how many customers actually decide to purchase the unlocked model given Samsung’s poor track record of providing timely updates for the unlocked Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge in the United States.

Samsung to build a P3 ‘total semiconductor factory’ in Pyeongtaek by 2021

It hasn't been long since Samsung completed the construction of its P2 semiconductor plant in Pyeongtaek, but now, the company is preparing to build its 3rd 'P3' semiconductor factory in the same city in the Gyeonggi Province. According to reports from the local media , Samsung wants to start constructing the P3 plant in September and make it fully operational by the end of 2021. The P3 plant will reportedly be 300 meters longer than the existing P2 plant, topping a total of 700 meters in length. Constructing the building itself should take roughly a year, and a few additional months will be needed to install the necessary equipment and ready it for mass production. The Galaxy M series has proven to be very successful for Samsung. The company launched its Galaxy M handsets last year in a bid to compete more effectively against the likes of Xiaomi and Vivo in India's lucrative mid-range market. Sony Announces Smaller Digital Paper E-Ink Writing Tablet

Sony has now announced a smaller follow-up to last year's Digital Paper E-ink writing tablet, the DPT-RP1. That's according to a new announcement made today via Sony's official blog. The new tablet – also dubbed with Digital Paper branding but sold under the model number DPT-CP1 – seems to be the same basic design as the previous model. However, while that earlier device was sized as close as possible to A4 paper with a 13.3-inch display, the new model drops to A5 with a 10.3-inch display. That should make its use much easier under a wider number of circumstances since it will arguably be easier to hold in one hand while writing with the other.  However, there will certainly be other benefits as well.
