First Galaxy J5 (2017) firmware update brings June security patch

Samsung recently launched its revamped Galaxy J series. The Galaxy J5 (2017) is directly available in the Netherlands today and the release coincides with the rollout of the first firmware update for this handset. The update that’s rolling out now brings the June security patch for the Galaxy J5 (2017).

The Galaxy J5 (2017) has a nice metal body, it’s powered by a 1.6GHz processor coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. It also has a 3,000mAh battery, a 5.2-inch HD Super AMOLED display as well as a 13-megapixel front and back camera.

Samsung is actually rolling out this firmware version J530FXXU1AQF5 in several countries across Europe where the handset has been released. It’s a minor update in that it weighs in at just 23MB and don’t bring any new features, but then again, the Galaxy J5 (2017) is already running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

It’s a good sign that the company is quick to release the latest security patch for this handset. Samsung is committed to rolling out monthly security patches but some devices tend to receive them a lot later than others.

The security patch for the month of June 2017 brings fixes for countless vulnerabilities in Android OS as well as 23 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) in the company’s own software.

Sony Announces Smaller Digital Paper E-Ink Writing Tablet

Sony has now announced a smaller follow-up to last year's Digital Paper E-ink writing tablet, the DPT-RP1. That's according to a new announcement made today via Sony's official blog. The new tablet – also dubbed with Digital Paper branding but sold under the model number DPT-CP1 – seems to be the same basic design as the previous model. However, while that earlier device was sized as close as possible to A4 paper with a 13.3-inch display, the new model drops to A5 with a 10.3-inch display. That should make its use much easier under a wider number of circumstances since it will arguably be easier to hold in one hand while writing with the other.  However, there will certainly be other benefits as well. Samsung to build a P3 ‘total semiconductor factory’ in Pyeongtaek by 2021

It hasn't been long since Samsung completed the construction of its P2 semiconductor plant in Pyeongtaek, but now, the company is preparing to build its 3rd 'P3' semiconductor factory in the same city in the Gyeonggi Province. According to reports from the local media , Samsung wants to start constructing the P3 plant in September and make it fully operational by the end of 2021. The P3 plant will reportedly be 300 meters longer than the existing P2 plant, topping a total of 700 meters in length. Constructing the building itself should take roughly a year, and a few additional months will be needed to install the necessary equipment and ready it for mass production. Samsung says upcoming Galaxy M handsets will be better and cheaper

The Galaxy M series has proven to be very successful for Samsung. The company launched its Galaxy M handsets last year in a bid to compete more effectively against the likes of Xiaomi and Vivo in India's lucrative mid-range market.
