We now know why Samsung’s having trouble teaching Bixby Voice different languages

Samsung was originally expected to launch Bixby Voice in Chinese and English on board the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ back in August, but it was forced to postpone the feature because it was having trouble teaching the assistant the languages, and now we know why: it doesn’t have the resources, like foreign language experts.

“Bixby’s linguistic capabilities are still unsatisfactory compared to its bigger rivals such as Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri,” an industry source told The Investor on condition of anonymity on June 27. “We are still working on improving the linguistic skills in order to provide a more advanced AI assistant that meets user needs.”

The South Korean company recently kicked off an opt-in beta test for Bixby Voice in the United States, though it hasn’t been well-received, with many users claiming that it barely understands English and is inaccurate more often than not, which is disappointing, to say the least.

At this rate, it doesn’t seem likely that an English build will debut before the end of 2017. That said, if Samsung enlists the help of a third-party company (cough, cough, Viv Labs, cough) experienced in multi-language systems, it should be able to release it within the next few months.

Samsung to build a P3 ‘total semiconductor factory’ in Pyeongtaek by 2021

It hasn't been long since Samsung completed the construction of its P2 semiconductor plant in Pyeongtaek, but now, the company is preparing to build its 3rd 'P3' semiconductor factory in the same city in the Gyeonggi Province. According to reports from the local media , Samsung wants to start constructing the P3 plant in September and make it fully operational by the end of 2021. The P3 plant will reportedly be 300 meters longer than the existing P2 plant, topping a total of 700 meters in length. Constructing the building itself should take roughly a year, and a few additional months will be needed to install the necessary equipment and ready it for mass production. Sony Announces Smaller Digital Paper E-Ink Writing Tablet

Sony has now announced a smaller follow-up to last year's Digital Paper E-ink writing tablet, the DPT-RP1. That's according to a new announcement made today via Sony's official blog. The new tablet – also dubbed with Digital Paper branding but sold under the model number DPT-CP1 – seems to be the same basic design as the previous model. However, while that earlier device was sized as close as possible to A4 paper with a 13.3-inch display, the new model drops to A5 with a 10.3-inch display. That should make its use much easier under a wider number of circumstances since it will arguably be easier to hold in one hand while writing with the other.  However, there will certainly be other benefits as well. The Galaxy M series has proven to be very successful for Samsung. The company launched its Galaxy M handsets last year in a bid to compete more effectively against the likes of Xiaomi and Vivo in India's lucrative mid-range market.
