Nokia 7.1 now available in the United States

Most of Nokia's recent Android devices have been very good, but the Nokia 7.1 is especially a good deal. For $349, you get a Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, and a 5.8-inch 2280 x 1080 screen with HDR support. Now the device is officially on sale in the United States from a handful of retailers.

Beyond internal specifications, the Nokia 7.1 comes in two premium finishes — Steel and Blue. Sadly, only the Blue color seems to be available for now. You can read our full hands-on post here.

The Nokia 7.1 ships with Android 8.1 Oreo, but an update to 9 Pie is promised by the end of November. Amazon's listing says the phone already ships with Pie, but that is not the case. As with all of Nokia's Android devices, only GSM networks like AT&T and T-Mobile are compatible. If you have Verizon or Sprint, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Instagram starts showing activity status in direct messages

... In its quest to become the only app where you share photos, moments, and messages, Instagram is adding one new feature to its direct messages: activity status. Just like you'd see when a person was last active on WhatsApp or Telegram or plenty of other messaging services, now you can do the same on Instagram and chide them for not replying with "oohs" and "aahs" to the preettay pic of a sunset that you just posted or the kissy face you messaged directly to them. Android has changed tremendously in the last ten years. Returning to modern hardware after our historical series , I was struck by the visual differences across versions. For a closer look, we rolled back to an even earlier build on our T-Mobile G1/HTC Dream. For anyone who might be curious, here's a quick visual exploration of Android 1.0 vs. Android 9 Pie. Samsung Campus: Applications for the Third Session of the Web & Apps Coding Training Course are Now Open

  Students may now apply to join Samsung Campus by filling their application for the third session of the Samsung Campus “Web & Apps Coding” training course. Young people between the ages of 18 and 25, with no high school diploma and passionate about computing, have until midnight on September 18 th to register on www.samsungcampus.fr . Preselected applicants will enter a three-week initial session on October 3, to gain the foundations they need for the training and to assess their motivation before entering the Samsung Campus.   Opened in Saint-Ouen, France in September 2014, Samsung Campus is a socially engaged training center that offers a free training course to develop digital skills for approximatively 50 young people per year.
