Razer's New In-Ear Headphones Utilize ANC For Immersive Mobile Listening

In short: Razer has just launched a new pair of in-ear headphones which look to offer smartphone users a more immersive listening experience while on-the-go. The Hammerhead USB-C ANC in-ear headset, as they're officially labeled, will first become available on October 22 through Razor with a view to a more global level of availability scheduled to take place throughout Q4, 2018. Razer has confirmed the Hammerhead USB-C ANC in-ear headset will be priced at $99.99 in the US, and €99.99 in Europe.

Background: Razer announced the new in-ear headphones as part of the Razer Phone 2 launch along with a new controller. Therefore the company's positioning these earphones (and the controller) as the ideal gaming accessories for buyers of the Razer Phone 2. Although as these are simply USB Type-C earphones, they will be compatible with any smartphone that makes use of a Type-C USB port. One of the main selling points with the new Hammerhead in-ear headphones is the availability of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and it's this technology support which is allowing the company to market the in-ear headphones as more of an immersive solution. As the ANC will effectively look to drown out surrounding noise with Razer confirming the ANC is powered through the USB-C connection made with a smartphone. Razer is also banking on the sound quality as another main feature and one which will complete the audio experience for gamers by offering the "perfect balance of deep bass and detailed trebles," achieved through the combination of dual driver technology and a built-in DAC.

Impact: Those who like the Razer style and way of doing things are likely going to want to check these earphones out, and especially if those same consumers are already intent on purchasing the Razer Phone 2. As these in-ear headphones do feature a number of tweaks which should improve upon the mobile gaming experience, and more so with Razer Phones. Not to mention, their design is very much in keeping with the company's style in general with each earbud prominently displaying the company's signature green motif. Those less interested in gaming may also find benefit in these earphones due to the use of ANC and decent frequency response coverage (20Hz –20KHz) for an in-ear product. However, at $99.99 these are a little on the pricier side compared to what else is available right now, and especially considering these do not offer any wireless or smart assistant features.
