How To Fix Huawei P20 Pro Not Charging Stuck In Huawei Logo

Problem: My Huawei p20 pro suddenly won't charge or boot up and is stuck on the huawei logo screen. Tried all the remedies inc hi suite recovery mode. When on the charger a red light blinks ..never turns green. I can get a screen up sometimes which says Coldboot.16 and tells me the phone is locked. Spoke to huawei not help at all. Just suggested remedies as you explain and send to UK / Ireland service centre. Gave me a lot of crap about foreign phones and warranties ………..huawei is manufactured in China just unhelpful bull and refused to look at it if i sent it. What does cold boot mean and what can i do?

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the battery of your phone has sufficient charge. Follow the steps listed below to charge your phone properly.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris that could be stuck in this port.
  • Charge the phone using its wall charger
  • If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. You can also try charging the phone from a computer USB port or by using a wireless charger.

Once the battery has sufficient charge then it's time to troubleshoot the issue of the phone being stuck in the Huawei logo. Before performing the steps listed below make sure to remove the micro SD card if the phone has one installed.

Perform a soft reset

The first thing you will need to do in this case is a soft reset. This will refresh the phone software and will usually fix this kind of problem. To do this just press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds or until the phone restarts. When there is activity on the screen you can release the power button.

Boot the phone in Safe Mode

This will allow you to check if the problem is caused by an app you downloaded as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then you should find out what app is causing the problem and uninstall it.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Power it back on
  • When you see the Huawei animation on the screen press and hold volume down button
  • You can see safe mode at the bottom left corner once the device finishes booting

Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode

This will erase any temporary data or files stored in the phone that might already be corrupt and is causing the problem. This procedure will not erase your personal phone data.

  • Turn off your Huawei P20 Pro device.
  • Wait for few seconds until your phone completely turned off.
  • Press and hold Volume UP button along with Power button on your Huawei P20 Pro device simultaneously for a while
  • Your phone will enter the stock recovery mode
  • Use volume buttons to highlight 'wipe cache partition' and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

Perform a factory reset

This is the last troubleshooting step that you should perform in case the above steps fails to fix the problem. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

  • Press and hold the Volume up and Power buttons until the EMUI logo appears on the screen.
  • Touch Wipe data/factory reset.
  • Select Wipe data/factory reset.
  • The phone will now wipe all contents.
  • Select Reboot system now.
  • The phone will now reboot to the initial setup screen.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already. You will need to have the phone repaired at a service center.
