How To Fix OnePlus 6 Keeps On Shutting Off Then Restarting
Problem: My OnePlus 6 keeps shutting off then restarting, it shuts off at around 50% battery power and then tries to turn itself on but it then just keeps restarting this phone is brand new I just got it 2 days ago my last phone was a galaxy note 5 and had the exact same issue I tried every solution I booted the phone in safe mode did not work I even perform a factory reset but the problem is still here. AmI unlucky enough to get two broken phones in a row the first one we were scammed after we tried to return it the guy we bought it from completely vanished from the Internet and the second guy will happily take a return and send us a new one though but I'd just like to know a reason as to why my phones do this
Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone its best to make sure that it is running on the latest software update. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.
Since this is most likely caused by a software glitch we will be concentrating most of the troubleshooting on the software side of your phone.
Perform a Soft Reset
The first thing you will need to do in this case is to refresh the phone software. A soft reset which is usually done when a phone is unresponsive will also work in this particular issue.
- Press and hold down the Power button on the right side of the phone
- Hold the Power button down for 10-12 seconds, or until the phone vibrates and restarts
- If the phone turns off let go then press power again for 1-2 seconds to restart the phone
Check if the issue still occurs.
Check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem
There's a possibility that an app you downloaded is causing the problem. To check if this is the case you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.
- Long Press power off button in your phone
- You will see the Reboot to safe mode message appear on the screen
- Tap OK to enter OnePlus 6 into safe mode
- Wait for your phone to restart, after that you can see safe mode symbol at bottom left corner side of the screen
If the phone does not restart in this mode then the problem could be caused by the Duel Links app. Try uninstalling this app then check if the issue still occurs.
Wipe the cache partition of the OnePlus 6
Corrupt cached system data can usually cause this kind of problem. To eliminate the possibility that this is causing the problem you should wipe the cache partition of your phone.
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time to turn on the device.
- Continue to press and hold these two buttons while the OnePlus start screen is displayed.
- Wait until the phone starts in the recovery mode.
- Tap the language of your choice
- Tap the Clear Data and Cache option
- Tap the language of your choice. Tap on the "Wipe Cache" option
- Tap the Yes option when prompted to confirm
- Restart the phone
Perform a factory reset
One last troubleshooting step to consider should the issue persist is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to create a backup copy before proceeding.
- Go to the Start screen.
- Drag the arrow symbol up.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Backup & reset.
- Tap Back up my data and choose an option.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Enable Erase internal storage.
- Tap RESET PHONE.
- Tap ERASE EVERYTHING.
- All data and settings saved on the OnePlus 6 will be deleted.
- The OnePlus 6 will automatically reset and reboot.
In case the phone still keeps on shutting off then rebooting even after a factory reset then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
