Xiaomi Mi 9 To Become Company's Smartphone With Triple Camera Setup
The Xiaomi Mi 9 and Mi MIX 4 are expected to become Xiaomi's flagship smartphones in 2019, and even though their release timeframes will be considerably different, some info just surfaced regarding both devices. To be more specific, an analyst from GF Securities mentioned that the Xiaomi Mi 9 will probably become the very first Xiaomi-branded smartphone to sport three cameras on the back. In addition to that, he mentions that the Mi MIX 4 will probably going to have a "periscope lens", which essentially means that it will be capable of zooming in further than a regular lens while not occupying more space in the chassis than your regular lens, at least as far as thickness is concerned. Both the Mi 9 and Mi MIX 4 are expected to ship with the Snapdragon 855, which is not surprising at all, as most major flagships in 2019 will be fueled by Qualcomm's latest and greatest processor. On top of everything we've mentioned, the source also suggests that the Mi MIX 4 may ship with a foldable display, but that nothing is set in stone just yet. The source also mentions that the Mi 9 may ship with 5G support, and that the Mi MIX 3 will become the company's first 5G-enabled smartphone, which is not a surprise at all as Xiaomi already confirmed that a 5G-enabled Mi MIX 3 will arrive in early 2019.
Xiaomi Mi 9 & Mi MIX 4 Release Timeframe & Details
The Xiaomi Mi 8 was announced back in May, while the Mi MIX 3 arrived back in October. Having that in mind, something similar will probably happen with the Mi 9 and Mi MIX 4, as the Mi 9 is expected to launch in the second quarter of the year, while the Mi MIX 4 will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2019. Truth be said, not much info has been released regarding either of these two smartphones, as it's still quite early, but we can guess what to expect. The Xiaomi Mi 8 shipped with a rather large display notch, though that will not happen with the Mi 9, The Mi 9 will either include a teardrop notch, or a display camera hole, it's anyone's guess at this point in time. The device will almost certainly be made out of metal and glass, though, while it will ship with three cameras on the back, it seems. Xiaomi is expected to include an in-display fingerprint scanner in that smartphone, while the device will ship with thin bezels. The phone is expected to include at least 6GB of RAM, while it will ship with Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10 skin, most probably. The phone is expected to sport a Super AMOLED display larger than 6 inches, and a battery that will be larger than 3,300mAh.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4, on the other hand, well, that phone is even more of a riddle than the Mi 9. The Mi MIX 3 is actually considerably different to the Mi MIX 2 and 2S, mainly because of its sliding camera mechanism. When it comes to the Mi MIX 4, it remains to be seen if Xiaomi will further push the sliding camera mechanism, or will it revert to more regular design choices. On the other hand, it's possible that the Mi MIX 4 will be foldable, as the source claims, though it makes more sense for Xiaomi to release a separate phone to become its very first foldable smartphone, and keep pushing the Mi MIX 4 towards the completely bezel-less status. The Mi MIX lineup of smartphones has been cutting down bezels since the first-gen model, and at the time it was released, the Mi MIX was the smartphone with thinnest bezels around. The Mi MIX 4 will probably also have at least 6GB of RAM, while it will ship with a large battery, and Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10, same as the Mi 9.
Xiaomi's Foldable Smartphone
Many smartphone manufacturers have already announced that they're working on foldable smartphones, and a number of them have confirmed that their foldable phones are coming in 2019. Xiaomi did not do anything of the sort, the company did not deliver a timeframe for the release of its foldable smartphone, even though the company is almost certainly working on one. Making the Mi MIX 4 foldable does not make any sense, as foldable smartphones represent a completely new path for smartphones, so it would make sense to create a brand new lineup of devices for something like that, as many other companies will do. On the other hand, Xiaomi did include a sliding camera mechanism in the Mi MIX 3, while the Mi MIX 2 did not ship with anything of the sort, so, who knows, Xiaomi can be quite unpredictable when it comes to that.
