How To Fix Samsung Galaxy A6 Will Not Stay Connected To Wi-Fi

Problem: I bought a Galaxy A6 used for my daughter. Not activated, just for her to use wifi and play games. The problem is it will not stay connected to WiFi. I've tried different WiFi broadcasts I've tried safe mode, I've tried putting in suggested it static settings from other pages. It will connect, but I immediately get a page telling me "webpage not available" and stating that the webpage at http://hla2.safemovedm.com/webping-s.html might be temporarily down or may have moved permanently to a new web address. It gives me some suggestions that are useless. And at the bottom of the page there is a checkbox to automatically accept T&C's for this hotspot provider from now on. I check and uncheck it does nothing. I close that out, and after a few moments it will scan, disconnect and tell me the connection had turned off. After scanning three more times it just turns the wifi off.

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on the phone it's best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

Perform a soft reset

The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to restart the phone by doing a soft reset. This will refresh the phone software and will usually fix this particular problem.

  • Hold the Power button for 3-5 seconds.
  • Tap Power off.
  • When the device has shut down completely, wait approximately one minute. This will help make sure that the cache and temporary files are wiped from the device.
  • Press and hold the Power button to switch it back on.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Reset the network settings

If your phone has a problem connecting to the network then this is one of the best troubleshooting steps to perform. What this basically does is it will reset the network connections of the phone to its default factory conditions without deleting your phone data.

What happens in this case is that

  • Stored Wi-Fi networks will be deleted.
  • Paired Bluetooth devices will be deleted.
  • Background data sync settings will be turned on.
  • Data restrictive settings in applications that were manually turned on/off by the customer will be reset to the default setting.
  • Network selection mode will be set to automatic.

To perform this action just follow the steps listed below.

  • From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  • Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
  • Tap RESET SETTINGS.
  • If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  • Tap RESET SETTINGS. Once complete, a confirmation window will appear.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Connect the phone to a different Wi-Fi network

Sometimes this problem can be caused by the Wi-Fi network itself and not the phone. To check if this is the case you should try connecting the phone to a different Wi-Fi network.

Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode

There are instances when an app you downloaded can cause this particular problem. The best way to check if this is the case is to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  • When 'SAMSUNG' appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see 'Safe Mode'.

If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by one of the apps you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

Your phone will usually store cached data in a special partition in the device. This data helps apps run faster making for a better mobile experience. There are however instances when this cached data can become corrupted and can cause issues with the device. To check if this is what's causing the problem you should wipe the cache partition of the phone.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key.
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys ('Installing system update' will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight 'wipe cache partition'.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight 'yes' and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step you should perform in case the above steps fails to fix the problem is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step.

  • Make sure that the phone is off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys ('Installing system update' will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight 'wipe data / factory reset.'
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until 'Yes — delete all user data' is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
