CASIO Intros PRO TREK Smartwatch With Dual-Layer Display
CASIO took the veil off a new PRO TREK smartwatch coming in the form of the WSD-F30, featuring a dual-layer display in both color and monochrome variants, all wrapped in a smaller and thinner case compared to the previous model, the WSD-F20. The upcoming wearable features an Extended Mode offering access to offline color maps and GPS connectivity for up to three days of continuous usage on a single charge, according to the OEM. The smartwatch will launch in three color options — blue, black, and orange — and will be available for purchase in late January 2019 through partner watch and jewelry retailers in the United States.
The CASIO PRO TREK Smart WSD-F30 is wrapped in a MIL-STD-810 case offering resistance to temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius, while its touchscreen has been treated with an anti-fouling coating providing water resistance at depths of up to 50 meters. The circular dual-layer display measures 1.2-inches and embeds both a monochrome LCD as well as a color OLED panel with a pixel count of 390 by 390. The screen takes advantage of a new Multi-Timepiece Mode capable of showing the time and measurement data including atmospheric pressure and altitude on the monochrome panel while shutting down the color OLED display and all smartphone communications for the sake of energy conservation. As a result, while the smartwatch delivers up to 1.5 days of battery life in normal mode, i.e. with Wear OS and all smart functions enabled except for GPS, in contrast the same package can provide up to one month of battery life on a single charge in Multi-Timepiece Mode where only the monochrome display is enabled and Google's Wear OS is turned off.
Other details include the ability to save up to five maps for offline use, compatibility with GLONASS and Michibiki, Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/n/n and Bluetooth 4.1 LE connectivity, as well as a wide range of sensors including a barometer, accelerometer, a gyrometer, and a magnetic compass sensor. As mentioned previously the WSD-F30 shed some of its weight and the case measures roughly 60.5 x 53.8 x 14.9 millimeters. It tips the scales at 83 grams with the wristband attached, and the wristband itself has also been reworked to include additional holes for improved flexibility. The CASIO PRO TREK Smart WSD-F30 is expected to hit the shelves early next year for the price of $549.
