Samsung Details How It Designed The Galaxy Note 9

Last week, Samsung debuted the Galaxy Note 9, making it the latest and greatest flagship in its lineup. Now, Samsung is talking about how it designed the Galaxy Note 9 and made it look so great. The frame was created from a process called Dia-cutting. This utilizes a "fast-rotating artificial diamond tool to create smooth, glossy surfaces that accentuate design details." In the process, Samsung had to taper the surfaces of the frame that blend into the front and back of the Galaxy Note 9. With this new method of cutting the metal frame on the Galaxy Note 9, it obviously costs more money, and the yield is pretty low.

Of course, the star of the show with the Galaxy Note 9 is indeed that Infinity Display. This time around, Samsung brought out its largest display ever used on a smartphone, at 6.4-inches. That's a tenth of an inch larger than the Galaxy Note 8's display, while keeping the same physical footprint. This is a result of Samsung refining the already pretty minimal bezels. Which was a challenge, as it still needed to keep the earpiece, front-facing camera, the iris sensor and a few other sensors on the front of the device. But Samsung was able to do just that. With the S Pen, Samsung wanted to make it really stand out. Now you could say that there is only one colorway which has a S Pen that stands out. Which is the Ocean Blue colorway. And that's because it comes with a gold or yellow S Pen. Samsung also decided to make the S Pen write in the same color on the screen of the Galaxy Note 9 this year.

While the Galaxy Note 9 may look fairly similar to the Galaxy Note 8 on the surface, it is still quite different. Samsung took a design that it had introduced with the Galaxy Note 8 and refined it in 2018 for the Galaxy Note 9, which is what Samsung should have done. As it had a really good design going for it, and there was no need to reinvent the wheel here. Samsung has put together a video showcasing the design of the Galaxy Note 9, which you can view down below.
