Leaked Samsung Galaxy S9 Images Offer a Glimpse of Smartphone

We've just been given our best look at the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus to date, with a full-frontal shot of each handset popping up online.

The image was tweeted by renowned leaker @evleaks, who posted the message "These are the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+" alongside the shot.

Evan Blass -- the man behind the @evleaks handle -- has an excellent track record with these sort of things, which gives this particular leak a good level of gravitas.

However, it's not totally convincing.

Incremental's the name, minor updates the game

What you'll notice right away is the Galaxy S9 duo look almost identical to the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus devices they're set to replace.

The arrangement of cameras and sensors in the bezel above the displays appear to match the layout on the S8, while the expansive 18.5:9 aspect ratio Infinity Displays also feature.

On screen there's a new wallpaper, and it's worth making a note of the date too. Friday, March 16 could well be a hint to the official Samsung Galaxy S9 release date. We've already heard rumors that the phone may launch in mid-March, so this does fit nicely.

Something that does make us a little dubious about the shot is the size of the bezel around the displays.

Versus the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus appear to have chunkier bezels, spoiling the visual effect of the Infinity Display.

The buttons on each side of the handset also look to be bigger, for no obvious gain.

We had no trouble hitting the power/lock, volume and Bixby buttons (yep, it's there on the S9 too) on the S8 handsets, and we see no reason why Samsung would extend them for its upcoming flagship pairing.

It means we're left feeling a little uneasy about this particular leak. The source is often reliable, but even evleaks doesn't have a 100% record.

Blass notes in a report on Venture Beat that the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset in the US and China, and Samsung's own Exynos 9810 chip in the rest of the world.

He also claims that the Galaxy S9 will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, while the bigger S9 Plus will pack 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage.

Another difference will apparently happen on the rear of the handsets, with a 12MP camera on the Galaxy S9, but dual 12MP snappers on the Galaxy S9 Plus.

What we do know for sure however, is the Samsung Galaxy S9 launch date has been set for February 25, and we'll be reporting live from the event in Barcelona to bring you all the latest of the brand new handsets.
