Google ‘presenting’ 2019 NBA All-Star Voting, now exclusive to official app/site, Search, & Assistant

The NBA All-Star Game is an annual exhibition game where fans get to pick the players. For the 2019 competition, Google is playing an exclusive role in the voting process, and heavily promoting Google Assistant and Search in the process.

This year's NBA All-Star Voting 2019 is "presented by Google." The company's participation in fan voting is not new, with user's last year able to vote via Google Search and an optimized card. In addition to the NBA website and app, voting was possible via Twitter, Facebook, Google Search, Amazon Alexa, Sina Weibo, and Tencent.

This year, voting is only possible though Search and Google Assistant, in addition to NBA.com and the official app. The National Basketball Association and Google signed a multi-year agreement for this arrangement.

For Google, this is another example of its big push into sports branding. YouTube TV heavily sponsored the MLB World Series and NBA Finals, but is now using sporting events to push Assistant.

For the third consecutive year, NBA players and media will join fans in selecting the NBA All-Star Game starters. Fans will account for 50 percent of the vote, while all current players and a media panel will account for 25 percent each.
